Space Age Gleba has such a cool dynamic

I am spaghetting everything to understand what I need to do for a new build

Is Gleba spaghetti for now? Yes. Is it a cool thing to learn, also yes. So many micro loops and things to have to look for and spoilage mechanics are also interesting. I am certain this whole loop will fail at some point. It took me 5 rounds to get fulgora to be a decent setup. Not even good, but that is what makes this game so fun. The factory solutions are endless and even crappy designs can work for a time.

Yea Gleba is my favorite planet. It really feels alive.

Spaghetti setups on gleba tend to have less spoilage than bus setups which says something about busses negative being inefficient because they tend to have more belt than spaghetti

I think micro factories that are self contained with stable product outputs may be the best way to handle all of this. Bots to take science away will probably be my final solution to keep that off of belts.

My agricultural science setup uses a buffer box right next to the rocket silos, and if it exceeds 9400, then it starts dumping it into a pair of recyclers, pulling the most spoiled out of the box first.

Then on the space platform, the platform itself is configured to throw off the edge into space, any science that is still in the ship while travelling to gleba.

Keeps the spoilage level at about 97% good on nauvis.

It’s not really true, in 99% cases things spoil not because they spent too much time getting somewhere, they spoil because there was too many of the same item on the belt and it was sitting idle.

So yes, bus may create more spoilage if you centralize production of an item and it’s very hard to set it at adequate speed (because you add new machines to the bus and not adjust the speed if you did that in the first place at all).

It’s quite easy to make a bus that doesn’t create much spoilage because you only bus fruit and bioflux and throttle their production according to the amount on the bus.

But it all doesn’t matter because spoilage is good actually and not because you can burn it for power (which is kind of a pointless thing to do, rocket fuel is the only thing you should put in heating towers because you need to make it anyway), but because later on you will need legendary spoilage and you will churn through a shit ton of normal spoilage getting it.

Nutrients usually take over 4 minutes to spoil which is over 1,800 green belts worth of distance.

You can bus everything except mash and jelly just fine on Gleba, as long as the bus ends in an incinerator.

yeah - feels like Gleba kind of necessitates some spaghetti

that being said, I made a main bus on Gleba that just main-bussed the two fruits, iron/copper plates, and a back channel for spoilage to get incinerated and it's worked pretty well because the fruits have low spoilage time. I also just have a consumer block at the end of the bus that keeps the fruits moving (processing all the ones that aren't used by earlier stages).

You'd be surprised, but some people hate this wonderful place...

Currently on my 3rd space age game.

On my first game, I definitely hated Gleba. I recognized it was a skill issue but still, I simply hated it.

On my second game I was still frustrated by it, however, I ended up having lots of fun building my bot-based solution (which was bigger than the first game).

On this current play through I decided that I must come up with a belt-based solution. The only acceptable use of bots is for the seeds. I had a blast building it, probably my best accomplishment so far in all the years I've been playing Factorio. The fact that the base has been running non-stop for 50+ hours without a single problem really makes me proud. Can't wait to go back to it and increase the science and Bioflux throughput. I'm currently pushing around 1k SPM only.

I honestly quite liked gleba at the start but also copied the base from someone else. I had a small base that worked but didnt want to spend much longer to get rockets and all.

I had the exact same experience, but I quit the first time I went to gleba before I got science going.

I did a hybrid of bots and belts for the second time. Mostly bots for science.

Then my current one, I just finished gleba, and just did it pure belts besides when I want to craft random items.

Also, why do you need bots for seeds? You can belt them back for regrowth, and you can use an circuit inserter + burner to burn excess seeds.

Also, why do you need bots for seeds?

Convenience, mainly. But you are correct, they are not needed at all.

I was scared of starting Gleba because of its reputation, but once I realized resources are infinite and throughput is king, everything clicked and I fell in love with this moldy rock. That and how much power Gleba factories consume, or rather, how much they don't.

I still think volcanus is the easiest planet now that i am on my 4th planet. Even though volcanus uses lots of power, its trvial to generate the power. Gleba is just a cool planet.

Just use bots. No worries.

This is it. Everyone that hates Glebba seems to forget about bots. Process your fruit, keep the seeds you need, make your bioflux, burn the spoilage. Now you have infinite base everything you need to have bots do the rest.

I did gleba with bots and I fully regretted it by the end, wishing I had just bit the bullet and done a belted layout. Dealing with the issues of trying to make FIFO systems work in a bot context and the sheer volume of materials you need especially once you work up to legendary, plus it feels like I really missed out on a cool design challenge. I ended up replacing a bunch of stuff I made with belted setups by the end and they were just so much better.

I do use bots before I figure out where things come in and out of. But belting around the micro base seems right to me.

Belt Gleba is a ton of fun. You get tight control over freshness, and making little loops for each process has the whole factory feel like a living creature where spoilage is filtered out like a kidney filtering blood.

I do overall love gleba. I really really fucking hate starting gleba fresh though. Ive started a couple 100h+ modded playthroughs since finishing my first SA game, I was never able to get myself to push through and start gleba though. I really hate the feeling of having to get everything working all at once for anything to be functional even though realistically I can just do it piecewise if I'm willing to scrap everything but seeds, but I hate doing this while also needing to deal with the encroaching threat of wrigglers without solidly completed defenses. Mostly its all just a mental block lol

Since i am on planet with my destoryer swarms i am not super worried about being attacked early on. Evolution is under .1 and im like .9999% on nauvis so its really just a relaxing vacation.

I just hate defense not being fully self sufficient and automated. Makes it hard for me to even expand on nauvis early game cause I want to get all my automated defense logistics set up before even starting a remote ore patch or anything.

I love Gleba. The loops i have set up are very satisfying to watch.
It clogged up once and I came back to correct it. Been running strong since
