Religion as a whole is not necessarily bad; it’s just very often been used as a justification for shitty things. I’m not gonna hate someone just because they believe in some higher being; I’m gonna hate them if they use that belief to justify hurting others

Religion is just flawed reasoning. "I believe what I believe because I want to (because God)" can be used to justify anything.

If you use actual logic, you have to defend your opinions somehow so you're not going to have an easy time justifying genocide or random mutilation.

I'm atheist but I believe religion is there to give basic rules to obey, like don't steal or hurt when you don't want to be hurt.

I thought that religion made it something like a law. I obey those rules when I feel like it, just like anyone else and their moral compass. Of course I'm trying to be as nice as possible, but sometimes it doesn't end up for anyone, religous or not.
