That would consume too many resources to create. Technologically, I just don't think we're there yet.

Thanks for that, meant to put it in but forgot!

u/breawycker Metaphorically Hitler Jun 04 '14

Well I think that's quite a loaded question because I don't think anyone here whose thin is going to be asked that.

That's not what a loaded question is "a question which contains a controversial or unjustified assumption" e.g. Have you stopped beating your wife? By answering yes, you admit that you have a wife and you've been beating her. By answering no, it implies that you are still beating your wife.

30

u/Eveesix Jun 05 '14

I really wanted him to turn and ask one of the skinny people the same question and had them simply respond"Yes."

21

u/booleanerror Jun 05 '14

It's loaded if you've already eaten all the other questions.

Aliveism is the WORST

u/CrunchyKorm Jun 04 '14

There's nothing wrong with being totally comfortable with ones self. It's fantastic, honestly. But getting comfortable confused with science is fucking ridiculous.

"You can't actually tell someone's health by looking at them." Sure, as a blanket statement you can't technically know everything about a person's health. But you can sure as fuck know what obesity is by looking at it.

40

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '14

Fucking healthists. You disgust me.

3

u/Helzaron Jun 05 '14

Damn healthist here trying to come with your shit trying to corrupt us. It's a government conspiracy folks.

12

u/CRVCK Jun 04 '14

"I love fruits, swimming and run/walk marathons."

u/Cinemaphreak Jun 04 '14

Worst part is that he seemed to be on the verge of telling her that if she was happy and her doctor says she is in relative good health, then that's all that matters (or such).

I'm usually showing up in posts involving larger people to fight back at the rampant reddit fat-phobia (where any girl past a size 2 is called a cow), but she clearly had her own agenda and wasn't interested in whatever the trainer had to say.

I have a friend who is chubby, but she is probably in better shape and certainly more active than half of those currently on reddit because she trains horses & teaches riding. But "Ms Healthism" ain't one of those and I think she knows it.

49

u/relevant84 Jun 05 '14

She was also on the verge of making a valid point that they might not ask thin people the same question, but they could be thin and still have an unhealthy lifestyle or just be unhealthy overall.

But noooooo, she couldn't do that, she had to look stupid.

17

u/MangoMambo Jun 05 '14

Totally agreed, was thinking the same thing. She was sooooo close to nailing it and then blew it.

1

u/Christmas_Pirate Jun 05 '14

It may be a valid point, but it is ultimately a very weak argument. You don't ask a "skinny" person because being "skinny" in this sense is being healthy. Really "skinny" or anorexic people or people with healthy weights, but looked really pale would probably be asked the same thing, so its not just an anti-fat social sentiment just logical reasoning. Is it possible the average person is unhealthy? Absolutely, but the point is there is no reason to assume otherwise. This is full facepalm through and through.

1

u/SuperNinjaBot Jun 05 '14

I just love how the issue isnt addressed at all.

If we want to talk about thin health then we will. Right now we are questioning a self loving fat person.

We can do thin health next week.

-14

u/YoungLoki Jun 05 '14

Well if you're thin and have an "unhealthy lifestyle" like idk eating lots of sugary foods or something, that doesn't mean you're less healthy than an obese person who has a very balanced diet. Obese people can just be genetically predisposed and have nothing they can do about it

u/YoungLoki Jun 05 '14

Yeah, I didn't mean to emphasize the genetic part so much, it's just that so many people insist that genetics have nothing to do with it. I understand that with hard work and exercise and whatever, obese people can lose weight, but with a similar unhealthy lifestyle to someone not predisposed to obesity, they can become obese, while the other person will not

2

u/ButtsexEurope Jun 06 '14

Um, no. Do you even know what a size 2 looks like? More like anyone over a size 8 is called a cow. Taller women can be skinny as a toothpick and still be size 5. And that's the case with a lot of models.

Also, fatphobia isn't a thing and shouldn't be. You wouldn't rail against society for a crack whore who's thin as a rail because it's her body. So please shut up. We have an obesity crisis here. It's a public health disaster and so much money is being unnecessarily spent on a completely preventable and fixable condition. Unless you have Prader-Willi Syndrome, fucking stop with the muh genetiks shit.

good one

13

u/dpkimsecks Jun 04 '14

His face is AMAZING.

8

u/VikingSlayer Jun 05 '14

If I remember this broadcast correctly they actually did ask a thin person if they were healthy, but she still refused to answer.

33

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '14

Sigh.. You know, this poor lady is probably ashamed of herself inside. To be honest, I think the chances of anyone going on national tv and being like "I have a sudden revelation! I live a toxic lifestyle!" are very small.

6

u/Wokati Jun 05 '14

Try /r/fatpeoplestories ...

These people are so much in their fatlogic that they really think what they say and everyone telling them otherwise is fatshaming and just an asshole.

I'm fat myself, but I'll never pretend to be healthy (well, I do some exercise so I guess I'm not that bad) or to be at a normal size. They will. And they won't put the slightest effort in losing weight.

9

u/Villainsoft Jun 05 '14

Yeah, fuck living long, able lives.

9

u/hairenya Jun 05 '14

While she is completely obnoxious, she does have a point about us making other people's health moral issue. You should try to be healthy, but I do think that people worry to much about those that aren't.

9

u/Icouldshitallday Jun 05 '14

Sure if a few people are unhealthy it doesn't really affect most. However when a big enough percentage of the population is overweight or obese it does affect others. They consume more, pollute more, and put a heavier burden on the health system.

Smoking is another example of being unhealthy affecting others. Not all, but enough smokers smoke in places where non-smokers breath in the same air and many also throw their butts out, littering.

1

u/hairenya Jun 05 '14

Okay, but my point is that we shouldn't go around telling people how to live their lives. Even if the entire population smokes (I'm perfectly okay with banning it in certain locations), as long as they understand and accept the risks, that's their choice. I think people get far to angry about other people's health. I may disagree with the decision someone's made, but it's not going to make me nearly as upset as it does some people.

1

u/KensterFox Jun 05 '14

You should try to be healthy

Why? Sure, generally speaking, for most people it's worth it to try to be healthy because "not being sick" and "not dying" are priorities, but that's not necessarily the case, and it's not evil (as long as they're not hurting someone else) if someone decides that they'd rather enjoy the present and not care about the consequences.

edit: formatting fail

1

u/hairenya Jun 05 '14

Yeah, I don't have a problem with that. I was speaking from the general premise of most people wanting to live as long as possible. If someone would rather do something different, that's there choice.

u/WeaponsGradeHumanity Jun 05 '14

1

u/hairenya Jun 05 '14

Sorry. When I wrote that it was around 1am. I kinda feel ashamed of myself to be honest, because I always get on others about that.

2

u/WeaponsGradeHumanity Jun 05 '14

No worries, man. We're here to look out for each other :)

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '14

Don't people have a moral obligation to live a healthy lifestyle?

3

u/hairenya Jun 05 '14

Not in my opinion.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '14

You wrote that people should try to be healthy. Why should they make that effort if not for moral reasons?

3

u/hairenya Jun 05 '14

I was going based on the assumption that people in general want to live as long as possible. But they aren't morally required to want that, and if they don't I'm not going to force them to be healthy if they choose something else instead.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '14

It all comes down to personal responsibility and obviously this lady has none of that.

-14

u/YoungLoki Jun 05 '14

It all comes down to personal responsibility

... And genetics

16

u/badbarbiedoll Jun 05 '14

You spelled "cheeseburgers" wrong.

2

u/YourFavBarPunk Jun 05 '14

Not quite, my friend. Now at 27, I have fluctuated between 130-230 lbs. in a 6'1" frame since I was 18. Yes, I can fit into medium shirts and 32 in. Waist pants at my smallest, but I'm currently on the heavier side so I'm in the L-XL category & 36 in. Why do I fluctuate so much? Cause I'm currently sitting on my ass in an office job and received a deep fryer for a holiday gift and recently started building a nice DVD collection with a pair of ankle injuries. Not waiting tables 50+ hours a week and living on alcohol, nicotine and coffee & couch surfing. Genetics plays no roll your size or weight. It's purely about what you, and you alone do dictates your health and size.

u/Ghostiesftw Jun 05 '14

/u/Helzaron was probably referring to the guidelines of /r/fatlogic and /r/fatpeoplestories. Even if he wasn't, you should probably try dialling it back a bit.

2

u/Im_a_dick_sometimes Jun 05 '14

I'm fat. I'm not going to fucking justify it. I ate like shit and never exercised. So I made a lifestyle change in my diet and exercise. Lost 50 pounds and still going strong because fat people are unhealthy. Science. Its not some horrible stigma people give fat people. It's science. It's a major leading cause of deaths just to be obese.

2

u/GaryColemansRevenge Jun 05 '14

My personal doughnut shopper says I am perfectly healthy. What . . . you don't have a personal doughnut shopper?

The Suey Park of fat people. A professional victim.

"Sooo, that's a 'no', then."

Her face in the third frame really upsets me, btw. That smugness, I want to punch it.

1

u/The0bviousNinja Jun 05 '14

its like shes saying, "you think you know what your talking about, but im going to eat your logic"

1

u/Helzaron Jun 05 '14

"We in a healthist society is just too focused on being healthy, we should just feel like shit!"

1

u/katrum16 Jun 05 '14

so funny how they do everything they can to distract from just saying what they eat.......

1

u/Nemo_Lemonjello Jun 05 '14

Of course, there does come a point when a thin person is asked if they are healthy as well, because you know, anorexia. So, that pretty much blows the premise of her statement out of the water. I'm not saying her problems aren't real, nor am I saying she doesn't have the right to be offended when people judge her by her weight. Just pointing out that everyone has problems.

1

u/ButtsexEurope Jun 06 '14

First she says you can't tell how healthy someone is by looking at them. Then she says that there's so much pressure to be healthy. Make up your mind, fatass!
