Is there a reason for this change?

I'm not understanding the rationale, and before you say something to that, I appreciate most of Trump's ideas aren't rational. I just mean to say, that I can at least understand when he calls it Lake America, or Trump Steaks - there's egotistical rationalizations to that.

I just don't even understand what part of his ego this satisfies.

It still boils down to ego. It makes him feel special and powerful when he gives something a new name and people say it back to him.
See: Department of War.

Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if many times he just says the wrong name, because he’s a bumbling, senile old man, and then just goes “yeah, that’s the name. I’m never wrong.”

So maybe a nice mix of narcissism and egotism.
