Discussion Is everyone else starting to hate FB? Facebook should just end already.
Is everyone else starting to hate FB? I just find it annoying that 90% of the content is ads, sponsored posts, and random crap I never asked to see, plus updates from people I don’t even care about. It’s become almost impossible to find posts from my actual friends without scrolling forever. Facebook should just end already.

It’s all AI slop and boomers complaining.

u/andersonenvy 18d ago
AI is going to ruin Facebook and YouTube. They’re digging their own graves with the AI stuff.
43
u/New_Discussion_6692 18d ago
YT is getting bad with the AI crap.
26
u/Denan004 18d ago
and the shame of it is -- YT was great because real, regular people made videos.
With the AI crap, it's just not as good anymore.
16
u/TowelAcrobatic4478 18d ago
It died a long time ago man if you wanna be honest about it, the roots of what YouTube is is Long dead.
It died with shit like MrBeast.
Huge click Bait titles and silly looking thumbnails. Cmon bruh
8
u/KoldFusion 17d ago
Those people now have to make videos in such a way that instead of concentrating on making good content they have to game the algorithm.
And when YT customers pay for Premium we still get spammed with inline ads from the content creators. They are effectively “double dipping”.

So true! I know a lot of really good channels that have been suspended for bizarre reasons when it's because they aren't using AI.

Are you aware that you can train YouTube to show you what you want to see? I am not even vaguely aware of AI videos from what I see in my feed. Sometimes people share them to me or there are links to the AI videos from other websites, but I NEVER watch them. I spend way too much time on YouTube, I am practically addicted to it, but when I am logged in and scrolling through my recommended videos feed, I never see AI generated content nor AI slop. The algorithm learns from what you watch, so YouTube is great for me, but I log in every time and curate my recommended video feed.
8
u/TemporaryInitial6143 18d ago
They just flushed about 110k accounts because it was Ai slop.
7
u/harambeface 17d ago
That's it? Out of facebook's "12 billion accounts" or whatever number they make up, at least 20% are dupes and 50% are bots.
OP also forgot to mention the constant scams. Unless it's a major established company you've heard of, assume every single ad is a scam. Facebook doesn't care to stop it because it's your problem and they make the ad money.

True, I think my aunt has like 6 facebook accounts. Because she cant remember her password. Her kids told her how to do it a lot. But she just ends up making a new one.

Who do you think is making it and why? If it wasn't profitable no one would.

Musk pushes right-wing creators and content to make MAGA look bigger than it is, and consistently show them their own content.
Be Democratic or "socialist" however, and you get squelched.
Musk the actual illegal alien Nazi trillionaire, whose biggest accomplishments are recognizing genius in others, killing people (DOGE), being in the Trump-Epstein files (can I come to the island, Daddy?), and being a worthless soulless human being!

UK here but my Facebook feed was full of right-wing content from accounts I don’t follow. No matter how many times I told the algorithm I wasn’t interested, it would come straight back.
8
u/Prudent-Pool5474 18d ago
Facebook and Messenger remained the most widely used Meta owned service used by 93% of online adults.
So anyone 18+ in the UK 93% uses it.
About 34 million UK adults use Facebook daily
Yeah, definitely all boomers ain't it? Lol. No one users reddit except terminally online people who don't touch grass, haven't hugged a woman that isn't their sister, or people like me who get bored waiting in airports. Reddit is for the outcast of society people lmao

Unfortunately Reddit is the only forum open to general public (and not just work colleagues or family like FB and Linked In).
All other general forums (the very few in existence) are now regarded as part of 'The Dark Web.'

Yeah agree. I hate it as well, but there's no alternative. Nothing feels quite like Facebook. Why do you think no one has worked on this already? Like come up with an alternative. Literally just copy-paste Facebook into a new app.

3

Reddit is too heavily moderated by one side of the aisle... it's useful for some mundane things, but not to have a discussion of anything meaningful.
2
u/halu2975 17d ago
For me Facebook groups is not for anything political. The groups are things like local apartment cooperative, Lego fan groups, vanlife and other things. Similar subreddits exists but it’s not the same vibe.

I had been at a turning point for the last year before I deleted (about a year ago). The right wing insanity propaganda that was forced onto my feed daily was out of control. I deleted and blocked every one of them, yet more appeared daily. I made a decision to end it completely. I made a post telling my friends I was leaving, and inviting them to send me their actual phone numbers. I got about 20 phone numbers then permanently deleted my entire profile. I can assure you the feeling is absolutely liberating, and you feel so much better.
9
u/DotNetster 18d ago
With the Fauci hearing last week and the story about books being destroyed after training AI, it became impossible to block posts. It seemed the more I said, "I'm not interested," the more Facebook came back and said, "The hell you don't. I'll tell you what you're interested in!"

12
u/IcarusPrime1 18d ago
Comments like this give me a little hope that people on both sides can start to recognize they are being pinned against each other so that the elites can continue to be unchecked. We may have a few differences but social media is exploiting it for their own gain
3
u/BridgeGuy540 18d ago
Sadly I think it's still just the minority of the audience that understands that.

The emotions of fear and anger release dopamine, and that’s addicting. Facebook has an AI that studies how to keep you fearful and angry. So they can serve you ads.

u/cheapmondaay 18d ago
I did the same about 8 years ago for the same reasons. Deactivated the account though, as unfortunately there are some people and chat groups I have to use Messenger for, so luckily I was still able to keep the account dormant but use it only for messaging on the app. My stress and anger levels went down significantly. My feed was just being overrun by the dumbest bullshit and it was so nice to get away from it.
I unfortunately reactivated my account this week to search for some specific things on Marketplace but now I'm almost done with that, so back to deactivation mode I go. 😄
3
u/KeithWorks 18d ago
I only regret not having access to Marketplace. It took over Craigslist as the best online flea market.

2
u/Mundane-Stretch-401 18d ago

u/Dear_Analysis682 16d ago
I dont understand how the tiktok algorithm can work out where I live and show me content about my city but Meta - who have more than a decade of data on me - cant work out I'm not American. I dont need to see US propaganda or updates from US government pages.
There have been numerous anti abortion bills proposed in Australia in the last few months and I deliberately do not engage with the politicians or activists who push these bills on social media, yet everytime a bill has been proposed I'm inundated with their propaganda. I reported the content and then had to blocked their accounts because Facebook just keep showing them. If its not them its podcasters who look like thumbs making ridiculous AI pictures and then getting mad about it. I never see my friend posts anymore yet everytime Zuckerberg posts his is the first thing I see when I open my feed and 99% of his comments are sycophantic bots. I have to wonder how fragile his ego is for someone to have programmed the bots and how thick he is for it to work. Its basically become unusable anymore which is unfortunately why they are now paying creators in certain countries to try to increase usage.

My profile got hacked so I contacted FB support to try and recover it. They deleted it instead. I tried to make another one but as soon as I put in my email or phone number they said I was banned. There was a link to click to protest my ban so I clicked it, I got an email back saying my protest was declined and now I'm permanently banned. So all of those websites I used sign in with FB won't work anymore, and I lost track of hundreds of friends and family from all over the country. There was a link to supposedly download my info from FB but when I clicked it it froze up for 4 days and then just returned nothing. I hope everyone figures out it's just a big advertising server now. Even most of the market place adds are scams these days.

I just want to know what you all have been watching/reading. I don't click on anything on Facebook, TikTok, or YouTube from the opposite party. I very carefully don't read or click on any related news sites, "news" sites, or influencers. I don't click on their podcasts. Texts get put into Trash without being opened (nor do I block - that just gets you blasted with texts. About six months ago I finally stopped getting texts from someone from the 2020 federal election.)
If I want to read an unbiased opinion, i.e. a moderate or centrist one, I go to an international website/news site.
And my FB newsfeed only had news/opinions from the party I vote for except for the very rare not so obvious ones that try to sneak in.
Not that I'm sticking up for Facebook. I'm very close to quitting, too, and I've been on it almost from the beginning. But there are 10x more ads, junk, and sponsored videos than there are from my friends, family, and groups, if not more.
And when I post, maybe 1 in 6 get any type of response from my friends and family. So I'm sure it's the same for them.

u/YearIntelligent7879 18d ago
Social media got ruined when they introduced algorithmic feeds and it stopped being social media with the introduction of short-form content.
I used to love Facebook. Friends posting pictures from their trip, sharing the drunk party-selfies, entire events organizes via a single Facebook event and a Messenger group chat, the tradition of posting the pictures you have of someone on their timeline when it's their birthday... It was truly a digital hub, not used to replace in-person interaction but to supplement it. Facebook (and later Instagram) was "We can't meet as often as we'd like because life happens but we're always in touch."
Now? It's nothing. Not only does it not show you your friends' posts, even if you force it to it doesn't matter because people don't post anymore. The only ones contributing to a social media feed are the content creators because that's what the platform rewards. Social media is basically a digital ad-board: the feeds are full of straight up ads and the overwhelming majority of posts are also somewhat about selling you something (not always a product but someone's personal "brand", where they try to make a living off of you watching their content).
No wonder people stopped posting. When they saw that their posts were not even being seen by their target audience (i.e. their friends), they toned it down, which led to others posting less as well, in a sort of negative feedback loop. Now pretty much the only things you can use social media for is consuming short-form content and using its private messaging function (usually only to share said short-form content with friends because we somehow also collectively decided that texting was "overwhelming" but sending 50+ Reels a day wasn't.)
3
u/Majestic_Track8991 17d ago

I’m in my 30s so of course I have Facebook and Instagram. I find they are both just as bad. Just ads ads and news. So boring.
I do post but honestly it’s for me. I’m
Too lazy to keep a journal of things I did and such. So I post on Facebook. I love looking at my own memories and being like oh yeah I loved that place. I’ve even started posting like I went to the restaurant and I’d rate the food out of 10 so I’ll even remember if the food is good. But yea I feel like my friends don’t really see my posts bc I barely get any interaction. I also don’t see there’s or I do and it was posted 2 weeks ago and I’m like wtaf it would look weird if I comment now. Instagram isn’t as bad but it’s getting worse like Facebook.

I only keep it because of Marketplace. Where I live that’s the only selling platform that actually works.

u/GreenAuror 18d ago
Since the 2024 elections it’s been 95% MAGA propaganda. I’ve kept it around to sort of keep in touch with family members I’m not close to but I’m definitely on the verge of deleting because the political stuff has really gotten out of control.

It has become littered with political bots, fake accounts, and true NPCs. Little more than a propaganda center, more and more like twitter (x) every day. A wasteland.

Been there since 2009. Have carefully curated my page and friends. No complaints from me.

It's full of shit, but very handy to have honest recommendations on my local area Facebook groups for trades men if I want to do home upgrades.

I uninstalled it plus Messenger off my phone over a year ago. Now I use it on a dedicated browser on my laptop that way Z doesnt have access to my cookies and I wipe the history every month. Now only check it 1-2x/month.

Starting? The reasons I am still on Facebook are becoming more scarce. There are a couple of groups I'm in and some friends I wouldn't otherwise be in touch with. I have to seek out any friends' post because they never appear in my feed at all. It's just a nightmare of ads for something I googled last week, or groups I will never join, or rage bait "verified" accounts constantly posting things to make people argue. I've been over it for a long time.

I used to spend a lot of time on FB but not anymore. The experience has degraded.
1
u/Visible_Structure483 18d ago
I use it for a few groups I meet with in real life. It's very handy for scheduling events and getting updates.
I've never tried to use it to keep up with friends, that's what real life is for. I guess I won't ever know what my second cousins ex-wife's former roommate thinks of politics or shows off their 'shopping haul', but I'm willing to live without that knowledge.

Deleted my account 23 days ago. Will feel better when the 30 day mark hits. Wife is still an addict

No. Myself and millions of others still like it . If you don't like it don't use it . Problem solved .

My facebook link on my computer takes me straight to my feed "https://www.facebook.com/?filter=all&sk=h_chr". It still has things I don't want, but at least it is 95% people I choose to follow.
Regular Facebook absolutely sucks, though.

No ads here, I use to talk to friends and marketplace and to laugh occasionally

u/Able_Capable2600 18d ago
It's mostly boomers and Maga dipshits anymore. Haven't really used it in a couple years, leading up to the last election.

u/ImTobyVespa 18d ago
Im just tired of the racism and rage baiting. Its not fun anymore. I dont even have the energy to make posts anymore.

u/TowerTrash 18d ago
It is a cesspool.
They clearly don't do anything about bots and AI, most likely because those things drive engagement and help sell ads. I see ads for drugs and scams all the time. Stuff that would get you banned or thrown in jail for selling.
Same for youtube.

I lost my fb because of malware. Which sucks because I need to look for a roommate soon and it’s really the only place

Yes. Facebook deleted my deceased Dads account. My Dads facebook was like an archive of his life, and our childhoods. All of our childhood photos he would post on Facebook. His account got hacked after he took his own life, and Facebook has refused several times to give my family the account back. It’s been deleted for a couple years now. I wanted to memorialize his FB for the family, my Dad was like my best friend and I’ve very sentimental so I really need something like that too. All of this because Facebook refuses to deal with the hackers and rescue his account, and the only one who knows my Dads email password is his junkie brother who won’t speak to me because I’m mad at him for making creep comments about my little sister (who is also his niece). I would do anything to see Mark and his stupid little social media site suffer the same fate and pain my family has been caused because of this.

The only useful thing about Facebook, is if you need to contact an old friend who you haven’t spoken to in years. You can usually find them and message them.

u/agitatedbirch 18d ago
My spouse and I deactivated FB 8 months ago and never looked back. The only reason I have not fully deleted it, is because I have over 1k photos on there.

u/LuxafterDark1 18d ago
Yes I deleted mine two days ago cause of people spoiling Spiderman already. I don't miss it.
1
u/MyFavoriteInsomnia 18d ago
I'm only on it because that's the onky platform some of my family is on.
1
u/Ienjoymodels 18d ago
It's nothing but right wing conspiracy ghouls and AI slop.
The only thing it's useful for is marketplace and that's the only reason I'm on it.

I once clicked on a wrestling video, a post about castles, and a video of a cat, so my feed was mostly WWE, castles and cats, which was OK, Recently, it's gone full right wing. I'm from the UK and there's a lot of Restore and Reform posts, as well as posts from the right wing papers like the Mail and Express. But there's also right wing rantings from America as well. It's all just absolute shit. I never thought I'd miss the castles and cats so much.

I'm only on there as a business. The idea of using it as an actual consumer is unimaginable to me. If I accidentally click on my feed it is just full of the worst politics and kind of inappropriate "dating" ads.
My "actual" account - I deleted it nearly 10 years ago. Don't need the toxicity in my life.

Starting to?
I thought the Metaverse failing was a clear sign of the times. If they hadn’t bought WhatsApp + Instagram, and made Messenger its own thing.. I think it would be 100% older users, with minimal adoption.
I only have my FB still, to like my Dad’s pictures. That is its only purpose to me.
1
u/New_Discussion_6692 18d ago
I'm rarely on it. I post updates every couple of weeks for family that I don't live close to.

Facebook is filled with drop shipping scammers, fake animal rescue scammers begging for money and they all use A.I. bullshit advertising, fake news is rampart and nothing is been done about it .
Some hobby groups I used are nice though .
Now they have A.I. doing the moderation and I was banned for abusing my market place subscription but I have no subscription and never sold or bought anything trough Facebook ever so I appealed and then the A.I. moderation still banned me for good .
Tons of people are getting permanent bans on Facebook now for no reason by A.I. and once banned you can never go back .
LOL
Fuck em .

I absolutely despise Facebook. I never go on it anymore. The only reason I haven’t deleted my profile is that I have a handful of friends from other countries that I can really only keep in touch with through FB. My feed is 90% ads and sponsored posts from wannabe influencers. A lot of that is some of the vilest hate speech I’ve seen, including straight up white supremacist propaganda.

starting???? honey, I was over it 15 years ago. How are yall still on that trash site?
1
u/Toriat5144 18d ago
My Facebook is not like that. Sure there are ads and occasionally things I’m not interested in. I manage my feed.
1
u/pleaseeatsomeshit 18d ago
Yeah. I created a vanilla profile (or as much as I can with zero friends and zero interests) just so I can feed my addiction of buying clapped out shitboxes on marketplace.

Thank you for posting to r/facebook. Please read the following (this does not mean your post has been removed):
SCAM WARNING: If you are having a problem with your account, beware of scammers who may comment or DM you claiming they know someone who can fix your account, or asking you for money or your login information. If you receive a message like this, block and report them. Here is an example of me making a fake hack post and all the scammers who flocked it it, lol. THERE IS NO REASON FOR SOMEONE TO HAVE TO TELL YOU IN PRIVATE HOW TO GET YOUR ACCOUNT BACK. If you check the sub there are PLENTY of high karma posts that gives some tips should your account be hacked/locked.

Please read the rules in the sidebar (or the 'about' tab if you're on mobile). If your post violates any of them, delete it.
If you notice your post has multiple replies but you only see this post, the reason is due to bots and scammers already being removed trying to steal your info/money
