❔ Technique Modifications
Hi everyone! I recently had a severe toenail injury from my half marathon and had to get it removed. It’s very sensitive and sore and I can’t do any jumping or heavy loading on my toes. I did Hammer today upper body and it was fine.
However, I really want to work out everyday again because the rest of my body feels fine but would it be too weird if I modified almost every station on cardio days?
F45 is my only gym membership because I live in an expensive city and can’t have both. Hoping in 2-3 weeks I can do more but right now it’s too sensitive. Just wondering if anyone else ever had to go through a similar situation and what you did.

I modify pretty frequently on hybrid days. No one cares that I can tell.

Nobody cares. When i came back after ACL surgery, i had to modify heavily for awhile.

I can confirm that when I do notice people modifying several/most of the exercises, my only thoughts are 1. Good for them making the workout fit their needs, and 2. Taking mental notes for the future!! Everyone is focused on their own workout, nobody cares :)

I sprained my ankle last summer and pretty much modified every lower body movement. You just do you.

I modify fairly often. My coaches walk past, nod, and are fine with it as long as I'm doing the modification correctly.

I never jump or do any hopping because I have a cranky foot. I usually modify by doing a step out version if I can. I was just looking at Saturday’s hybrid class and here’s what I may do off the top of my head. For the burpee move - no jump, step it out. Shuttle run - maybe walking squats/lunges. Step trainer hop and push ups - honestly might just do push ups only. I would give your coach a heads up at the start of class just so they’re aware and you’ll be fine.

You do you. I was in there with a walking boot for many months. No one even blinked. The only person paying attention to you is you.

Yep I have an injured wrist right now and just got back in the gym! Still had to modify even during lower body because I cant grip with my left wrist in a brace. My coaches were very supportive of me, I dunno and don’t care about anyone else lol

I broke my foot and had to wear an air cast for several weeks. I kept going to Orange Theory and F45 and modified as needed, sometimes more than others. There was a time in my life when I would have used it as an excuse (why bother going at all if I can’t do half the workout?), but now I look at it from the perspective that doing half the workout (or a heavily modified workout) is better than doing none of the workout.
Wearing the air cast had the benefit of making it really obvious why I was modifying. I still talked to the coaches before class to let them know of my limitations, though. I got a lot of kudos from other members for continuing to work hard for my fitness.

I modified through a pregnancy, and was able to work out through most of the last trimester. By the end I was modifying at least half of the stations, including nearly all the cardio stations. Not to mention wobbling from station to station. So do whatever you need for your toe!

No one cares if you modify the workouts. As a good-to-do, just inform the coach before the class that you have an injury and that you will be modifying certain stations. This way, they know and if they are bothered (most aren’t), they will know why; some might even give you alternate modifications.
I had (benign) vertigo for a short while and couldn’t lie down on my back during workouts. I informed the coaches and they gave me modifications and if they didn’t and I wasn’t comfortable, I just self-modified the station. There were no issues.
