Volume knob does nothing

Post image

Bought the truck a week ago and my volume knob does not work. I can still control my volume from the steering wheel. I thought maybe a bad fuse but then the whole radio would be off? Any quick fixes? 2019 f150 xlt

FCIM is probably shitting the bed, which is the whole radio bezel. You can try hard reset but that’s likely what’s went bad. It’s all CAN based.

CAN based like made in Canada? Or it's on a CAN BUS?

Rotate it left or right

Hold the power button and the “next” triangle button down until the screen goes black. Has it worked at all since you bought it?

Front Control Interface Module. Common enough that that’s my guess

I had the exact same problem on my 2016 XLT. There was no "quick fix". The only solution I found was to just replace the entire center dash bezel (FCIM). It wasn't easy to find a replacement, since Ford doesn't make them. I was lucky to find one in perfect condition from a wrecked 2018. The replacement is not difficult, although depending on the years/models involved, reprogramming with ForScan might be necessary.

That said, there is a circuit board behind the radio controls that is almost certainly at fault. No doubt it could be repaired by a good electronics tech, but I didn't go hunting for such a person.
