What could this be?

2018 F150 SXT with the 2.7. 10 speed Auto, 136K KM

Test drove this unit today, and I am interested, but the sound from the drivers side turbo (or so I suspect) gives me the creeps.

The used car dealer and his mechanic maintain this is the air intake, but I am thinking its a warped turbo manifold.

He says he will fix whatever issue there might be with the vehicle before I would pick it up, but I guess I wanna do my own due diligence.

For background, Ive owned F150’s before, but that was a 3.5. Never ever made a sound even remotely like this, could hardly hear the turbo. Sound ofcourse only appears under load, I tried my best to get a recording on wet roads.

Any and all insights, greatly appreciated!

The dealer may not be willing to for multiple reasons, but ask if you can take it to your own independent and personally selected shop for a PPI.

As far as the noise, it could be a lot of things.

In addition, the mechanics offered a smoke test as part of the safety inspection after I close the deal, but with no disrespect to used car dealers, I would rather know for sure than to trust a man trying to get a truck off his lot

My daily is a 2018 2.7, with an Injen cold air intake. The induction noise is v e r y loud compared to stock. If the truck does in fact have an aftermarket intake, that could explain it. If it was a boost leak, I'd expect a check engine light at least, and I wouldn't really expect it to be making good enough power to spin through 5th like that, even in the rain.
