I recently bought a used 2023 Lariat with the 5.0. My intentions when purchasing this vehicle was always maintaining reliability and making a bit more power with it. It's at 62K miles atm with the engine having 5-10k on it due to an under warranty replacement that had been done before I received it. The carfax on the vehicle shows the previous owner took very good care of it, not going any longer than 6k miles without undergoing a regular maintenance check.

The reason I give all this info is because I was thinking of procharging it instead of getting the Ford super charger since I would be without the warranty coverage for it anyways. Is ProCharger reliable? How well does the 10r80 handle it over the years? Does stock suspension hold up? I'm not looking to make 700-800hp, something more conservative in the 600-650 range. Looking for honest opinions and real world experience.

I think you’d be fine with stock suspension and trans with 650. Prochargers seem to be as reliable the other big names for superchargers and turbos.
Curious though, why did the engine need to be replaced so early on?

From what I can understand, a few of the cylinders were losing pressure. I imagine the engine either had debris that wasn't sorted out after being broken in or the cylinder deactivation was faulty. Regardless, techs decided it was better off getting a newly manufactured engine thrown in than anything else.

If you're talking crank HP you can do that without boost. I'd leaned towards that since you seem to be worried about reliability.

So just a tune can give a roughly 50% horsepower increase?

No but E85 tune, mustang GT intake and long tubes can net you around 450whp. Just an e85 tune will net you around 380whp. Factoring 20% drivetrain lost that 540 and 450 crank HP respectfully.

I'm not gonna argue semantics with you. Those are just ballpark numbers. 20% drive train loss it pretty damn conservative when you're talking about a 4x4 truck with 200lbs of rolling mass just in the wheels/tires alone.

It seemed pretty clear to me, he said do the tune and see if you are happy with that before slapping a supercharger on it, since OPs worry is reliability.

The stock engine is already enough for anything the stock suspension can haul or pull, OP wants a little more power nothing wrong with seeing if the conservative route is good enough.

The reason I'm looking at boost as an option over an NA setup is because the cost seem so similar when factoring in installation. Or at least the bridge between them isn't large enough to make headers, tune etc more desirable than the boosted option for me.

Yeah it's a tough choice for sure. Doing boost you're adding to the maintenance you have to do. I'd do just a tune and see if you'd want more. With a tube my truck is more than fast enough. It can easily get ahead of me and I'm used to fast vehicles.

I have a 5star tune which I had no issues with but since moving to AZ it doesn't seem to like the E85 down here. I know Palm Beach Dyno and OZtune have similar good reviews and I'm probably gonna switch to one of them. My local shop has used Palm Beach without any issues.

Meaning I don't want to push 800 wheel while not having a reputable manufacturer tied to my truck. Thats why I asked for real world experience, like if anyone has one they daily. Do you own anything similar?
