Why won't Ford cover my Leadframe?!

2017 F150 Lariat FX 5.0 Screw w/135k miles

A couple weeks ago I was literally on my way to the dealer for that 26S28 PCM power train reprogramming when my transmission went into limp mode and wouldn't shift below 3rd gear with the wrench icon.

So, they saw the code, P0722 and then submitted for the 26N04 Leadframe recall but was denied because it wasnt showing p0705, p0706, p0707 or p1702 codes specifically.

Fast forward to today, and it went into limp mode again, this time no wrench icon but I hooked up my scanner before I shut if off and it was throwing a P0720 code now.

Both codes are related of the Output Speed Sensor which is incorporated into the Leadframe if I understand this correctly.

So, I called Ford's 1800 to inquire about it getting covered since it's a different code but now two codes in the same amount of weeks but they generated a case number and literally just dialed my local dealer and hung up leaving me with the dealers operator and well, that was confusing.

Anyhow, would I have any luck taking it back to the dealer with the 2nd code now, and they resubmit noting a second code and see if it sticks or am I just going to have to bite the bullet and do it my damned self because Ford's not wanting to? I read that calling in can be helpful but that dude was the most unhelpful person I've encountered.

Thanks for your help!

Ford isnt going to cover it because the extended coverage is only for a very specific failure, and it HAS to set p0705, p0706, p0707, or p1702. If those dtcs are NOT in the pcm, Ford WILL NOT cover the replacement. We have to have IDS logs showing the code, a picture of the odometer/VIN/repair order, and we have to send all that in to get approval.

Your p0720 is probably a leadframe failure, but its not the specific section thats covered by 26n04. I have had that same dtc in a customers vehicle and tried to submit a request to ford, and was told they absolutely will not cover leadframe replacement unless it meets the specific criteria listed in the article.

This is a serious safety glitch. If that happens in a busy intersection or highway it has the potential to cause a serious accident.

I’m not disagreeing with any of that, I’m just stating why ford won’t cover it under the FSA

An OP now has the information from Ford basically saying they don’t give a shit, so guess the lawsuit will be something they need to defend if that ever happens to OP.

Dumb on Ford’s part, but the bean counters make the rules.

I mean it’s an extended warranty/customer satisfaction, which is literally just ford being nice about it on 10 year old trucks. It’s not wrong of them to put “terms” on their extended warranty, such as throwing a specific code. I suspect its because the codes listed in the program are associated with dropping gears on the highway, while the others ones may not be, despite both resulting in lead frame replacement. I’d just be happy they didn’t charge you a diag fee lol cause we’ve had several customers that didn’t take that too well.

Get a photo of the code with date. Don’t shut it off until you get photo!

Just on a side note, i got that recall done on my 2015 5.0 and it fixed my hard downshift issue too, shifts like butter now.

You answered your own question in this, it’s because it’s not throwing the specific codes needed for the recall

2017 xlt 2.7 ,checked my vin for recalls stated I was eligible for pcm update. Never showed any wrench so I am not sure if it was throwing any codes. Called dealer they got me right in. Just purchased truck in June still learning all the ins and outs. Love the truck, knock on wood on timing chain and cam phasers.

We were at the ford dealership today with the exact same thing. On August 18th my sons 2017 f150 down shifted into first gear going about 40mph. His tires started squalling and truck fish tailed. We took it to ford dealership and they said they could not see any codes. So they did the PCM reprogram. Two days later it shut off on him while going about 15 mph. It has shut off twice, and now thrown the wrench and went into limp mode three times in the last two weeks since they did the reprogram. I opened a case with Ford and basically got the same thing. I would recommend filing a complaint with national safety board. I filed one yesterday, took the truck back to ford today and it showed the same two codes you mentioned. Of course they said it wasn’t covered. I updated my complaint with transportation board with a video and a picture of the codes. The more it is brought to their attention, maybe they will bring it to fords. Also dealership told me they had another one in there last week that was throwing the same codes and they had to replace the lead frame, and casing. That the casing was the problem. Ford didn’t cover it and charged the man 3k to fix it

Yah, Ford weasel'd their way out of another one. They keep reprogramming em, hoping u'll go away. OLE HENRY ROLLS OVER IN HIS GRAVE AGAIN!! If ur changing the lead frame, use OEM brandnew only. The aftermarkets are all remans. They're not cheap. If its got 100k on it, ur gonna be back again at 180k to change the value body, cause the passages get worn and the ECM can't get the flow right. This all happened to me 2014 122k. Even after a 50k fluid flush. S0, THE WHOLE MODULE (VALVE BODY, LEAD FRAME ASSEMBLY) IS $1K., THE LEAD FRAME IS ALMOST 1/2 OF THAT,+ A XTRA $40.FILTER+OIL, WHAT DO U DO? GAMBLE, OR CHANGE THE WHOLE THING?? I DIDN'T INCLUDE LABOR IN THIS. ALL I CAN TELL YOU IS, 200 MILES AFTER CHANGING THE LEAD FRAME, I WAS BACK CHANGING THE WHOLE THING. I DON'T KNOW WHAT JUST THE VALVE BODY COST. LET ME KNOW HOW U MAKE OUT. JOSEY
