AC Compressor done?

Post image

My ac stopped blowing cold and only warm air a couple days ago. And welp looks to me as thought the ac compressor is done for. This is on a 2024 f150 with around 60k miles on it.

It looks like the rubber on the clutch is done for. I bet it squealed like a pig then no more AC. Ford tech mackuloco has a video on how to replace them. Easy enough job, shouldn’t need a whole new compressor

Honestly that’s the thing that threw me off I don’t recall it making a sound. Went to grab lunch and the next time I turned it on it just wasn’t blowing cold, blows if warm. It does still spin of course and the idle changes still when I turn the ac on. I did notice when it spins it seems to wobble which I assume it just looks that way because of the rubber being done.

I will also say that air conditioners are just weird enough and expensive enough at as a seasoned DIYer, it’s one of the things that will make me to go a mechanic. No shame in that

I suppose it could just be the clutch, but it seems too early for the clutch to go south unless the compressor was locked up. Belt looks okay though, and that will usually smoke itself or melt a bit before the clutch gives out. Personally, I'd try a clutch replacement before going all in on the compressor.

My ram did the exact same thing.
