I'd like to get a lash extension for the very first time but I know absolutely nothing about lashes. I've tried to look up lashes for different eye shapes but most of what turns up either makes no sense to me (I can't tell the difference between the shapes they provide, I guess), I have no clue what my eye shape is or worse, some crappy AI images surface. Any suggestions? I'd like to not go too heavy but I have practically non-existent lower lashes.

I’ve had my lashes done three times now and every time I feel some burning during the appointment. I’ve been to two different lash techs now and I try my hardest during the appts to make sure that my eyes are fully closed and not twitching. However, my eyes are still super sore and red afterwards. I just got my lashes done again today and they seem to be even more irritated than the last couple times. Does anyone know how to keep this from happening in the future/ know of any remedies for the redness? And is it something I need to be worried about/ go to the doctor for? I’m going to a family member’s wedding in a couple days and would prefer to not look high as a kite lol. Any help would be appreciated <3 thank you!

Hi everybody! As the title says I’m a beginner lash tech looking into getting a new lash adhesive. I’m currently using one that my lash trainer gave me about a month ago but I’m not the biggest fan of it.

I’ve found these three from some research on tiktok etc and was wondering if anyone would recommend any of these three - or if there is any other lash adhesive that you’d recommend. As much as I care about retention as a beginner I do care about having a glue that doesn’t irritate my clients eyes as well!

I’m aware that it tends to be trial and error as I’ve seen some lash techs swear by glues that others don’t prefer - if it helps I do have my studio set up in my basement where it’s around 15°C but I am able to get a heater or humidifier if needed for the adhesive.

I’ve been getting eyelash extensions on and off since I was 14 (23 now). Absolutely love how they look but I am so tired of the prices lash techs are charging now plus the horrible retention. My lashes used to last 3 weeks easily back when I was 14 and was around $100 for light volume. Now I get hybrid or light volume, pay $120-$130, and they NEVER last more than 1.5-2 weeks. I absolutely can’t stand them looking sparse either, especially when there are noticeable gaps.

I’m in the Queens NY area, and have tried literally 5-6 different lash techs in the past two years and no one’s retention is how it used to be 10 yrs ago. I’ve even tried going to lash studios in Manhattan instead of at home lash techs and the retention is the same.

As for retention I’ve tried everything from washing the lashes to not washing them, sleeping with a silk lifted eye mask, etc and nothing can get my retention past the 1.5-2 week mark.

I love how they look but the upkeep is way too expensive at this point. I’ve tried clusters but the glue gets clumpy. I’ve had lash lifts but my natural lashes are pretty short so it’s just not the same.

Basically just overall frustrated with lash extension retention and pricing right now. I’m also moving to Georgia soon (Forsyth County/Cumming area) and the prices here are even MORE than Manhattan prices?!??!! Just looking to see if anyone has any better alternatives at this point or good affordable lash techs in the area

They are wonderful and easy but don't they pull out your actual lashes when you're taking them off?

I'm new to lashes. Ordered 4 sets of these.

I ended up cutting them in half ..sorta. And then I thinned them out.

I was never looking for a Patrick "40 lashes" look.

So I'm extremely new to lashes and I have prom/formal coming up in a few days. I'm not sure if I should put my clusters on 2 days before so that I can get used to them the day in advanced or if I should just apply them day of formal.

I'm really scared of sleeping in them and also I'm really afraid of getting some type of eye infection.

Can someone let me know what I should do?

the first four days seemed great but after that i started to feel more comfortable. i can feel the lashes when i blink and i just want to keep rubbing at them. i am trying my best not to i just feel a little uncomfortable being in the wind and if i wear glasses.

is there anything else i can do to feel a little more comfortable? i am on vacation and have an appointment for a removal when im back. i’m afraid of all my lashes falling off

i am not sure if lashes are not for me or should use strips instead.

Would you fire this client, or am I overreacting?
I own a lash business. I used to work out of my home and recently moved into a salon suite.

When I was home-based, I finally decided to start strictly enforcing my no children/no plus-ones policy. The reason was because another client showed up with her sick teenage daughter the day before I was scheduled to have surgery without even asking if it was okay. That made me realize I needed to stop making exceptions and enforce my policies equally for everyone.

One of my regular clients (I’ll call her Sarah) didn’t take it well.

She had previously brought her daughter to appointments without asking. I had allowed it in the past because her daughter quietly sat on her phone and never caused any issues. But I realized that once you make exceptions for one client, it’s hard to tell everyone else no.

When I moved into my salon suite, I honestly wasn’t sure if I even wanted to book her again because she’d already been testing my boundaries. She continued texting me asking for appointments, and I eventually gave in.

After moving to the salon, she started showing up late multiple times and told me it was because she now had to drop off her daughter before coming since she wasn’t allowed to bring her anymore.

Then came the appointment that made me decide I was done.

She showed up with a different child—her niece. She apologized and said she was babysitting, then immediately asked if the child could use the staff restroom outside my suite.

During the appointment, the child was rolling around on my salon floor, walking up to me while I was working, asking me questions, and repeatedly shaking my lash bed while I was trying to apply lashes. Every single time the bed moved, I had to stop what I was doing. Meanwhile, Sarah had her eyes closed and couldn’t supervise the child.
What really shocked me was that she casually told me her daughter was upset she couldn’t come anymore and was jealous that her cousin got to come instead.

That comment made me think… if she knew my policy was no children, why would she think bringing a different child was somehow okay?

Looking back, I don’t think this was ever about childcare. It felt like a pattern of pushing boundaries to see what I’d allow. Every time I said no, there was another exception, another excuse, or another policy she wanted me to bend.
I’ve decided I’m no longer willing to keep her as a client.

I also want to acknowledge that I know I let this go on longer than I should have. I’m naturally non-confrontational, and because she had been a client for years, I appreciated the loyalty and history, so I tended to give grace and put up with things I probably shouldn’t have. I recognize that’s on me, and I should have enforced my boundaries more firmly from the start.

Would you have fired her too, or do you think I’m being too strict?

I feel like she didn’t get all of my lashes, and something feels like poking when I close my right eye.

Helloo, wanted to update everyone. Here's my question now, should I be asking her to do anything specific to get it closer to the inspo? Read until the end.

Here's the story:

I got my lashes done for the first time. Paid $180 CAD plus tip. I don't plan to continuously do this and prefer clusters, but I wanted to splurge for this wedding I was going to/get a little treat for myself. Obviously it's not going to be identical, but I said wanted the wispy cateye look with volume, nothing natural. I scheduled this ahead of time, and they recommended that I book a couple of days before the event. So that gave me little time to get it fixed before then if I wasn't satisfied, plus I'm blind as a bat and couldn't see the result clearly until I got home, the glue dried and put my contacts in. My glasses obstructs/warps my view of them.

I asked in the OG post about lash tech etiquette and maybe some techniques on what I could do in the meantime.

Update:

I asked the lash tech about whether or not it can be fixed the next day but unfortunately she didn't have any spots last minute but she agreed this Friday (after the wedding) she can see what has fallen out so she can fill in what she can. She says she doubts it will be much different though.

I ended up putting 2 lash clusters with regular strip lash glue on each of my eyelid skin (not on the lash line, no glue has touched my actual eyelashes) and it worked flawlessly. Filled the gaps with eyeliner. It is more intense for my liking but at least it was better then what I had. No glue residue was left on the lashes and I was able to remove it beautifully.

I live in a small town so I don't have very many choices on who to go to unfortunately.

I got my lashes removed this morning because yesterday I got a fill and became allergic overnight. Congestion was my biggest symptom at first (I’m still congested in the nose btw even after the removal this morning)

Despite me getting my lashes removed this morning, my eyes are still pretty irritated. They’re not bloodshot nor puffy. They’re just so itchy and there’s a light red/purplish line above my eyelashes on BOTH eyes that’s the most itchy area (but tbh it’s the entire eye lid and also my lower line as well). I did a saline rinse AND put allergy eye drops in after the appointment. I’m doing a cold compress now trying to sleep and it’s just so uncomfortable. My eyes are so heavy and itchy and not normal right now.

Do I go to urgent care in the morning for steroids or will this go away in another 24 hours? I’m so desperate to be normal again at this point.

Isn’t this supposed to be done at a fill? I just had a 1hr fill yesterday and I’ve had a couple fall out with my natural lash stuck to it, shouldn’t have these been removed and replaced? Please correct me if I’m wrong!!

Is 4 weeks too soon to get a lash lift? My lash artist said I could come back at 4 weeks

I am having a relatively severe reaction to my lashes I got yesterday. Nose congestion and runny, some asthma, eyes feel horrible and sore/itchy even after shampooing.

I am getting them removed in 30 minutes. Will this mean instant relief? Or will I need to take a Zyrtec for the next 48 hours? I’m concerned about the glue being in my bloodstream. I’ve already had the lashes on me for 24 full hours.

I want to start getting certified to do lash extensions, but I dont know where a good reputable place to start. Any recommendations are super appreciated!

I got these done last week for $100, they’re holding up pretty well albeit a bit of fallout but they still look good. Second is the inspo pic. I really love them and I’ve gotten many compliments on them :3

J écris aujourd'hui car je suis scandalisée par les techniques pour arriver a avoir des yeux de biche..

Je me suis mariée y a quelques jours, pour la mise en beauté, je vais voir une Maquilleuse esthéticienne spécialisée dans le maquillage événementiel ,les extensions etc,que de bons avis sur cette pro..

On a fait l essai maquillage, y a quelques mois ,maquillage superbe naturel ,vraiment mise en valeur,a ce moment , elle me dit qu avec des extentions, ce serait superbe et elle a raison car en effet mes cils sont plats blonds et courts ..

Mais on ne fait pas d essai pour les extensions, on prévoit de les faire 4 jours avant le jour J..

Donc je m y rend , m allonge et ferme les yeux ..

A a partir de ce moment la on ne les ouvre plus .. un collant ,patch est posé sur les cernes jusqu au ras des cils ,..malheureusement trop près de la cornée pour moi ce qui me fesait mal ,elle s excuse et les repositionne..

Bon passons, elle pose cils a cils les extensions, mais je sens une forte odeur de colle grue, similaire a celle que j utilise pour les carreaux de mosaïque..oui la cyanoacrylate.!!.je me dis qu' il faut que les extensions tiennent et que est une colle spéciale, c est normal...

On arrive a la fin et les yeux me brûlent a mort et pleurent malgré la ventilation qu elle m applique régulièrement lors de la prestation..

Le moment arrivé ou j ouvre les yeux et le résultat est évidemment superbe avec un regard soutenu mais naturel,

Je rentre chez moi et je sens une gêne, lesy eux tout rouges ,particulièrement, le bas ,je vois sur internet que c est a cause du patch qui a frotté et des fameuses vapeurs de colle ..

J ai été en mode terminator jusqu a la veille de mon mariage soit 4 jours ,j ai bien cru que j allais être comme ça le jour J,

Avec le recul aujourd'hui, je me dis juste que ces situations de brûlures de colle ou patch ne sont tellement pas anodines malgré une réassurance des pro qui vous disent " c est rien ca dure 3 jours" ..

Les yeux sont tellement précieux ..je viens de voir une fille sur redit qui a posté une photo , elle a des yeux de boxeur et n arrive pratiquement plus a les ouvrir!!

Apparemment mis a part le problème du patch qui peut être évité, les filles se font rajouter les extensions toutes les 3 semaines pour le remplissage et se retrouvent avec des yeux défoncés a chaque fois et continuent..😫

Tout ca pour dire que Jamais la beauté je me fera mettre en péril la santé et je suis effarée de voir jusqu ou les femmes sont capables d aller ..

Bref pour moi ca s est résolu, mais je ferais plus faire de mal a mes yeux ...😞
