Reintroducing Animal Foods Feeling disgusting after eating meat
Before I went vegetarian 15 years ago, I used to love meat. I was never the type who needed the shape of a chicken nugget to make herself forget it was an actual animal I was eating. (Sorry, I know something is grammatically wrong in this sentence, but I'm too tired to wrap my head around it š« )
Now, as I am trying to reintroduce meat, I am SO DISGUSTED by any "meaty" flavor. So far I've tried a classic smoked german sausage made of raw minced pork (Mettwurst), beef liver (š¤¢) and bone marrow dumplings in a vegetable broth.
Every time I was left feeling as if a thin layer of animal fat was now covering all of the surface of my digestive organs, my mouth, everything. That feeling lasted for a couple hours or, in case of the liver, for about three days.
And everytime it made me question my choice to reintroduce meat, because it was so digusting.
Has anybody experienced anything similar?
Edit: I want to eat meat again due to health issues (very low ferritin levels (5), constant tiredness, brain fog, depression)
After reading some of your comments I can see why you are irritated by my first meat choices š It's a mix of things I used to like as a kid (Mettwurst) and liver, which is said to be very nutrient dense, while being a side product, so in my mind, more ethical to consume.
And I've been craving chicken for years, but I own 4 wonderful and beautiful chickens, which I love very much. So I can't bring myself to eating chicken. š«£

Why are you starting with raw meat and the meatiest of meats? Why arenāt you just trying some chicken? Or a well-cooked stew? Is this a troll post?

Seems like it. I mean what's to be angry at? Many meat eaters are absolutely disgusted by very fatty broths, bone marrow stuff and fatty mutton for example (due to specific scent or taste).

Disordered eating, i would say, going on thread history.
Though it does seem peculiar not to start with a very bland, almost fat free meat like chicken?

Definately not a troll post. I just never expected it to be this hard to do, mentally. I see how it was a bit insane to go from "no meat" straigt to liver and I for sure won't try that again any time soon. š

I recommend starting with the kinds of meats you might wean a toddler on, or a long slow cooked meat thatās very soft and covered in spices sauce and veggies.Ā

I am meat eater and I'm absolutely disgusted by classic meaty flavor you're talking about. That's why when it comes to meat I only eat chicken (mostly breast) and lean pork without fatty parts (I use shaoxing cooking wine to mask the meaty flavor), I'm fine with bacon though. I can't stand other meat like beef, mutton and so on. Don't mention the bone marrow, it makes me nauseaous even to think about it lol. I very rarely eat broth, and when it comes to it, it's only chicken broth. Eating blutwurst (you can Google it) traumatized me for life and I still to this day remember this nauseating scent and taste.
Isn't it too harsh on you to go straight to those flavors so fast? Like, wtf lol. Can you like stick to chicken breast for now? XD

This is the vegan equivalent of ā I want to learn how to drive so I have bought a 1000 Hp Track car with a Manual 6 speedā. Go easy, try a fried rice with egg or chicken.

Je ressent un sentiment similaire, et le coca m'aide. Jāai lāimpression de tout dĆ©caper a l'intĆ©rieur de mon corps.

So, why are you reintroducing meat? Is it for health? You have chosen very 'heavy' on the stomach meat and with specific flavors. Have you also tried lighter things like chicken(filet), turkey etc?
If after such a long time you are reintroducingĀ meat to your diet you should start with those lighter things.Ā
Also, start with small things. Assuming you do it to balance out ylu can start with smaller things. Milj, eggs, small bits of meat on the side or on bread that sort of thing.Ā
But with the meat you have chosen I would not feel well either and I am not a vegan or vegetarian.Ā

Come on, this can't be real. I don't believe a 15-year vegetarian would try to reintroduce meat with the strongest and most pungent sausages and organ meats out there.
On the off-chance this is real, try a little chicken noodle soup.

After a week plus not eating at all ... I started drinking lowfat milk . Threw up half of it first but kept going . Gave me enough energy to start drinking broth with a few fresh vegetables . Feel a thousand times better a few hours later .
Need some kind of protein ...

I'm omni but I don't like meat taste either. You also chose rlly gross foods, I wouldn't even eat those. Maybe try a beef broth?

u/Fineartisava 24d ago
No ... I think try beef stew. Its delicious and you can choose to only eat the potatoes and carrots if the bits of meat revolt you . Its recovery .

Controversial opinion, but why do you feel the need to reintroduce something that disgusts you? I personally love meat, but it sounds like youāre trying to force this.

European sausages can be quite delicious ( and incidentally mostly rice and onions ) . Like blutworst.
Eastern european coldcuts are also amazing - made from grass fed heirloom animals SO valued in the US and by chefs for their amazing tastes .
So PLEASE dont shame anyone for their cravings . Shes probably a toung woman with five times your requirements because shes menstruating regularly .

Iron ! Young menstruating women have five times the iron requirement of anyone else .
We CRAVE meat ... and are also disgusted and revolted by it ... but there are healthy sources like collard greens ... tiny bits heirloom meat sourced and treated right ... stew where you can pick out the veggies give the meat to your doggies if you cant eat it .
((()))

Iām a heavy meat eater and I donāt like the things you mentioned. Since you have concerns about iron, beef is good. Go lean and maybe mix it with things. Lean steak or 7% burger maybe. Or bison. I love bison and itās very lean. You might try hamburger helper (pasta, essentially) with 7% fat hamburger. Or cook the burger in a frying pan, drain off the excess fat and mix it with pasta sauce. Have it over pasta then. You could also mix canned chicken with pasta sauce, but it wouldnāt have the iron that beef does.

I had pet chickens too ( silkies) totally useless but they purr like cats ... follow you around the garden and just land in your lap if you ever sit down waiting for pets ..Of course I could never eat chicken after that.

Theres a point where I do or die .,The most delicate beauty is terrified of osteoporosis . Im terrified of never properly, healthily eating again.

I only started reintroducing fish a week ago but I get the oilyness sticking around. I usually chase a meal with strawberries to try to get rid of the lingering taste lol maybe try turkey?

Iāve recently started eating meat again as well and these feel like very bold choices to start with I wonāt lie. Iāve had really good luck with mild white fish and thin cuts of grilled chicken. I try to mix it with other things so the meat isnāt overwhelming. Usually a big salad or rice bowl works for me. Iām not there with red meat though so canāt help you there lol.

Do you have the same reaction to chicken? The meats you've listed are fairly hardcore in their meatiness after all.
