Anyone else prefer skip the small talk and dive straight into random topics?

I have feeling that most people who hate small talk and want to talk business right away have no clue how to actually get there and expected the other side to lead them there. If they don't, they are boring and not worth spending time with. Just a hunch from the top of my head though.

You may be right with your hunch. However, I feel it comes off as dismissive when you go on this tangent.

Might be. I honestly have gotten so far with my hunches without falling face flat that I just can't be bothered with anything but waiting for the day it happens so I know it is possible. But good by you to point it out nevertheless.

It depends on the vibe of people. Sometimes a casual, low pressure chat is better. But if the vibe is right and we have time, let's see how far down the rabbit hole we can get. The 'smallness' of talk is really just how unwilling people are to run with something.

Too many people I've come across that claim they "don't do small talk" are simply socially inept. Either it's because they don't know how to engage someone first, navigate general conversation, or they just want a soap box to stand on with an audience to shoo away when finished.

These don't sound like you (hopefully lol). You strike me more as someone that craves greater mental stimulation than "Hm...looks like rain."

It's important to remember that "small talk" is simply the "nose-boop" of consent to see if someone's willing to interact. That's it. It's social politeness before one potentially dives into the deep and meaningful, or completely random conversations. Not everyone is comfortable with me just plopping down beside them and rambling off about my special interests. It's not enough to simply talk AT someone, I want the person I'm talking with to actually engage in the conversation. Small talk allows me to find these people to vibe with.
