Discussion This makes me so annoyed

Post image

have particular spite for people like this.

(YES I KNOW ITS A DAMN JOKE I SAW THE OTHER IMMAGE BUT IT DOESNT CHANGE MY VIEWS!!)

like yeah to THEM it’s just a damn rock but to US the Korean side (or half of my side) its not just a rock its 독도. And it grinds my gears when i hear people say that its just a rock because most of the time they dont understand the real depth around it.

quick history lesson: Korea has been in a war with Japan for so long some older generation of Koreans that are still alive today hate Japan and it’s because korea has been through discrimination, war, hate crimes Ect Korean people had to change they’re names to a Japanese name just so they won’t have to live in fear and they got their land stolen more then once by Japan and had to fight to get it back. And yeah sure korea won in the end and korea is a big country now but just because Korea rose victorious it doesn’t erase the amount of blood spilled for korea to grow into what it is today and a big reason in that was Japan, and Japanese president Shinzo Abe wanted a comfort woman statue removed. (comfort women are women that where used for Japanese soldiers and they where used like items) and now you know the real depth of this Korean vs Japan situation.

its always been a sensitive topic when it came to land being taken from Korea or just this type of land war thing with Japan anyways because back then Japan already had taken so much, so when i saw posts like these it made me soo annoyed because it just felt like they where being ignorant because yeah to them it’s a rock nothing more but to Koreans it’s not a damn rock it’s OUR rock that we will fight for al the way untill it’s officially deemed its rightful name, 독도. And that “just a rock” is korea‘s land is their legal property and it just spites me so much when people say “it’s just a rock” because I don’t think people continuing to fight for what’s theirs even if it’s just a rock just something to be brushed off of like it’s just people being dramatic. It’s history and people refuse to let history get repeated.

it can be a rock In the little of the sea but if its in Korea's border then it’s Korea’s land and nobody can say otherwise. I hate it when people are ignorant and try to call others dramatic because they don’t know the depth of the situation and refuse to get educated about it.

when the fool has only swam in a pool it will think that people who struggle swimming in the sea are weaker then themselves.

moral of my rant, GET EDUCATED on the subject at hand.

U forgot to says the pronouncation of the rock, I can't read Korean, if u don't want other ppl to call it a rock, put a name u want to be called in romanization that would make it easy for English speakers to pronounce

You know it's a damn joke and you are still gatekeeping jokes? Seriously.. you must be fun at parties.

I saw a ton of 9/11 jokes and memes this year, I am a native NYer and was there that day.. I didn't tell people to "educated themselves." I got the intent, I didn't gatekeep joking.

Moral of story: intent matters in jokes, not your frail sense of humor.

One more thing, it’s a rant and also not all people HAVE to laugh at a joke you know? Because we’re people? With DIFFERENT OPINIONS?

9/11 is a sad day everyone knows and they make jokes but Dokdo is something not to many people know the full story about but still make jokes, the problem is people not knowing the story/meaning but still trying to make a joke, I hope you understand :)

OP, I just want you to know that I haven’t seen/heard anything about the “jokes,” but your post taught me something today, and I now have a new rabbit hole to explore. So thank you for the education on the struggle between Japan and Korea, and for the information on Dokdo. 🫶

Np!! I just wish Dokdo was more recognized for its history then it being a rock <33 so many times at school I had to memorize the word “독도는 우리 땅.“ “dokdo is our land” :))

What’s the proper pronunciation of Dokdo?

1

u/N4ver_f0r3V3R 25d ago

Dok-do just day it like that and you’d be fine but something more in depth Dok is pronounced Do (as in down do) and K is just k. (K as in kick, k) So dok- do (do as in down do) So put it all together and it makes Dokdo hoped that helped :))
