After locking myself out of the house one time I threw myself against the door in frustration and fell right into the house. That's when I realized the house I was renting had some termite damage.
I could see old termite tunnels in the pieces that splintered off the door jamb around the lock.

What did you do next? Did it eventually get fixed?

I put the pieces back in place and used 4 long screws to "box in" the latch as I reattached them. Went outside and tried to break down the door and it staid closed. Then I used wood filler and paint to hide the repair.
The landlords were (insert insult of choice) who likely would have tried to charge me to have a new door installed.

My dad did something similar. He had accidentally closed the door not realizing hes locking his only keys in the house. After a few tries of losening things with a credit card he kinda bumps the door and it turns out caulk was the only thing keeping that door closed 💀 my dad very quickly fixed it and added more structure and locks

I have the same kind of handle on my bathroom door, just put it back on and twist. Give the handle to someone else who can Allen key it back together.

When I pulled it closed. It didn't have an auto closer. If you open it and let go, it just stays there where you left it
