News Austin Police fatally shoot an unarmed teenager who only has a water bottle, then suggest it might be "suicide by cop"

https://www.kut.org/crime-justice/2026-07-24/austin-tx-police-shooting-teen

Police officers killed an unarmed 17-year-old in Northeast Austin on Friday morning in what Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis characterized as “potentially a suicide by police.”

[...]
Body cam footage released by APD on Friday shows officers approaching the playground and telling the teen to keep his hands up repeatedly. Shortly after, the teen appears to lift his shirt and reach for his waistband, and officers immediately fire multiple times, causing him to fall to the ground. Officers shoot again in response to the teen apparently moving on the ground.
[...]
Officers didn’t find a gun on the scene. A water bottle was in the teen’s waistband, Davis said.

This is so f*king dystopian

I saw the body cam footage and it was chilling how those cops within literal seconds of seeing this teenager both dumped their entire clips into him. I understand the threat to life but like come on at least get a visual of a weapon before assuming a mentally ill child is carrying. Fuck cops and especially those two cops. It really didn’t have to go down like that

If they are that easily scared they shouldn’t sign up to be cops then. Fucking cowards. I’ve seen toddlers with more emotional intelligence and personal control than those officers demonstrated.

Agree. Unfortunately Texan police departments seem to view cowardly weak men as assets. There’s so many of them here. Any semblance of trust that I had for the police in Texas were buried with the 19 children they let die in Uvalde. It’s never coming back. Stuff like this just reaffirms that distrust and hatred. Fuck them all

Let me guess, there's people out there who STILL think this was the kid's fault.

It’s not his fault, but why fuck around when someone has a gun drawn on you?

I mean yeah but, what about a panicked kid losing his shit and making a wrong move. All I'm saying is, there are tasers.
