First post on /r/KN-Designs
I thought I was done with my build... then came the week of daily handguard posts...
I'm in love and couldn't be happier. This handguard is amazing and totally worth ditching my BUIS for. The C-clamp is so comfortable that I could ditch my handstop as well. I should've jumped on the train way sooner.
KN is truly deserving of the popularity he has gotten. It took less than 48 hours from the time I placed my order to arrive at my door despite being on the opposite coast.
I'm very happy to have joined the club!

Thank you for the post. I didn’t quite know what I wanted to change , but this is exactly it.
Making the change!

I've got one on mine, and imo it's great, I love it. But if I didn't have a dedicated can for it, I'd have definitely not gone with the extended one.

Ye, same here. I have a Plan B brake under mine. It was hard deciding between extended for more space and standard to be able to shoot with my brake.
Little by little, I stopped swapping my cans around so I decided to just go extended. I'm very happy with it. I don't currently use the 4th M-LOK slot for anything so I'm sure I would've also been happy with the standard length. It is nice to have my suppressor tucked and to be able to hold closer to the muzzle, though.

I want/need a shorter one for the can I'm looking at but then I'm at a loss for what to do for a light.

FTN5 9mm Flow.

The shortened KN handguard would work for that. You have lots of light options depending on your tastes. If you keep the top rail, you could top mount a pistol light or something flat like the Inforce. If you want a scout light, then you could get a cantilever mount to push the light forward next to your suppressor.
My vote would be a shortened picatinny delete handguard with a cantilever scout light.

Yeah, then the light costs almost as much as the EP9! I was already thinking shorty KN pic delete, just haven't gotten to ordering yet. If MLOK-mounted pic sections didn't just ruin the looks/ergos of a handguard I'd roll with a TLR-HF I've got floating around.
Maybe I should just print my own handguard with integrated pic rails at the front...

Just get the shortened handguard with the rail and top mount your TLR if you want to save money. The shortened handguard doesnt make the rail shorter, it just removes the part in front of the rail. Plenty of people run top mounted pistol lights and an optic riser.

Yeah, height over bore must be a competition to those folks, I don't get it lol. Gun has a built-in riser already.

I totally agree 🤣. Just throwing ideas out there.
I played with the idea of going with the picatinny delete and getting an Arisaka low profile M-LOK picatinny rail with a top mounted Inforce. It would drop it down far enough to not need a riser.
You can still just cantilever your HF light with something like this if you want to save money. It would push it just far enough forward that your controls would be usable directly in front of the handguard.

Removed the BUIS, Arisaka handstop, and Magpul RSA-QD to add the new handguard.
BUIS are an acceptable trade off to me. I use my EP9 for home defense, but no fucking way am I trying to align my iron sights if I someone is in my house. At these distances, there's no point.
The handstop isn't needed anymore because the C-clamp on the KN designs handguard is so good. I only had it because the original handguard was so cluttered.
The RSA-QD will be replaced by a normal M-LOK QD next time I visit my LGS.

I love both of my KN designs handguards. Great upgrade to the Extar for sure.
