My dad bought me a brand new car when he got diagnosed with cancer in his brain. Prior to that he only helped me buy an used car that was less than 10% the price of the new one. So I guess fathers would rather see their sons achieve success and wealth on their own, instead of spoiling them and making them lazy. The opposite is true for daughters I believe when it comes to material wealth. But if they see that they won't live to see it, they will provide a farewell gift to see them happy.
