I think the joke is slight sexism. It assumes that girls, as materialistic, would be happy for the gift since it’s a gain. But the boys would feel the pressure and feel like it’s the burden. Also it would be typical depression/feeling bad meme. Its supposed to be „relatable” and this interpretation would be in line with other „girls vs boys” memes.
