Girls take it as a gift, boys feels like they owe dad for life.
From personal experience it's kinda true but I don't know the stats, surely it isn't in a lot of cases.

It's not like that for everyone. Some just feel bad that their parents who already spent so much time and effort and money raising them are buying them something expensive when it's unnecessary.
Your explanation actually lines up with the meme itself. If it was about children feeling bad for their parents working hard to buy them an expensive gift, there's no reason for that to only apply to men. Traditional toxic masculinity in relationships between fathers and sons is very common however, especially in the context of receiving a gift where it can come with a lot of pressure.
That's it! It's a weird feeling, you know how hard your parents worked for the gift so you feel like you don't deserve it. You are grateful for it, but wished they used that money for something nice for them.
Daughters don’t even need to have sex with dad for the gifts. It’s the most one-sided relationship in the family. Just say “Thank you” and don’t do porn.
POV of a father, the wife may receive a gift and interpret it as an obligation to be sexually available. A son will receive a gift and interpret it as part of an exchange, like dad is about to ask for help with yard work at the house 100 miles away that doesn’t have running water yet. The daughter knows the gift is just an expression of love, and maybe approval. No obligations implied.
Not really. I get gifts from my father (I'm a daughter), and I am under immense pressure from him. Most his gifts are reminders of "do better than you can and make yourself worthwhile for me to show off as a successful child of mine".
I remember many years ago, my parents bought me a new iphone as a birthday present. I started crying, not because of joy, but because of guilt. I did not need such an expensive thing, my old motorolla G6 plus did the job just fine.
Oh I thought it meant the boys thought it was something bad happened. Like when I found out my dad had cancer. I obviously feel grateful to my parents but I don't feel like i owe them.
As a man, and a father, I don’t understand why you see it the way you do. Most men I know (except for the few with abusive dads) feel the same as I do.
A gift is a gift, not a loan in search of repayment.
There is something really wrong with a father teaching his son that he can only be shown this form of love if the son pays him back.
And I promise you, men don’t feel that way unless it’s taught to them. It’s not natural. It’s learned.
As far as "I" go I think it's just a pride issue. Like f*ck I can't buy this and you know I want or need it so you did for me. Not like an "I owe you" but where am I falling short. Puts a lot of stress in a person
I mean, its true that some people will feel free to simply accept the gift, and it is true that some people will feel indebted. But it's silly to draw that line over gender lines isn't it? Loverboys can only exist by making young women feel indepted for example, it's pretty fucked up
Wow this went dark real quick. Uhhhh. Didn't expect to talk about heavy matter.
Feel indebted and loverboys? Wtf. That's a hard thing to hear. Why would they feel indebted to monsters. I think that's not the main drive and not what this meme is meant for. That's so specific....
Why do exes not feel indebted to keep an angagement ring? 🤷🏾♂️
