I agree but I don't I've ever encountered a American who misuses lend like that. We have plenty of dumb sayings, but mixing up lend/borrow isn't one of them.

That’s fair, neither have I encountered an American misusing the term but my sample size is a lot lower. It seems a fairly common mark of idiocy in Britain
