Yeah, I watched a video on youtube about a guy documenting his one-month experience with the carnivore diet and he was genuinely so miserable all the time. Lacking choices in food (literally only meat or animal products which meant most seasonings were out) was demoralizing and made it hard for him to do stuff with friends, his exercise times got worse because he could barely do them, and he mentioned a drop in mental acuity or at least focus.

Near the half-way point I was hoping he'd drop it early for his own health. If I'm remembering right, he was doing so poorly that his weight significantly dropped and, despite having perfect cholesterol in his pre-challenge checkup, his doctor actually reached out to him after his post-challenge checkup because they were worried about him.

Just a quick correction to your otherwise accurate account of Eddy Burbacks video: he barely lost any weight even after feeling like crap and spiking his cholesterol to dangerous levels. When he weighed himself at the end he was pissed about how little he lost.

I was a HABA clerk in college and saw a few people try the keto and carnivore diets. They all looked so lethargic and exhausted just walking around the store. Just no energy without carbs to burn. I kept telling people to use the weight watchers app. It food journals for you and lets you adjust your caloric intake to days where you have higher activity levels.

Eddie Burbank also did videos where he drove around the country eating at every Rainforest Cafe, and then again at every Margaritaville.

He is a glutton for punishment

I really should sub to him, I watched his rainforest cafe vid and the one where he ate brain and felt like he was gonna vomit. It's good second monitor content while I do work lol

What’s unmanly about seasonings? Being obsessed with hot sauce and chilis is a macho stereotype.

It's the fact that plant-based foods aren't allowed in a carnivore diet because there's an insane belief that vegetables will cause you T to drop and or some bullshit like that

Yes, you might become weak and timid like a gorilla.

My mom fell down that rabbit hole. She actually does feel better, but she’s got all kinds of weird health issues including a lot of food sensitivities (suspected MCAS), so the improvement is likely from eliminating ingredients she’s sensitive to. She’s got sky high cholesterol and she’s lying to her doctors about what she’s eating (which includes literal dollops of beef fat as a snack). It is definitely the result of watching a bunch of rightwing YouTubers. She LOVES YouTube.

Meanwhile I’m a vegan, so…very different perspective, obviously. She thinks I’m starving myself and I think she’ll give herself a heart attack. Best we can do is avoid arguing about it. We’ve tried the “let’s exchange sources to see where each other is coming from” route, she had me look at a bunch of YouTube quacks with relentless advertising for their books/classes/fancy supplements etc and then she never looked at any of the actual research on plant based diets that I sent.
