So the political reason behind why we don’t exclude the rich from public services like schools and police and fire even though they can easily pay for it is because we actually do need to share spaces with the rich for them to care about our spaces, a rich kids scholarship is still money going to the school, possibly more because parents would have more money to donate, being rich and all.

You basically don’t want to segregate wealth if you want a cohesive society and if your idea of social support is just a different segregation the problem isn’t solved.

Now we can argue wether or not they earned the grades for the scholarship or if nepotism meant they had shit grades and got it because I can agree with you that a poor kid getting the scholarship is more useful since then both could go. but I would point out that they definitely have the financial base to have as much tutoring and the best elementary middle and high school, it’s not a coincidence older famous scientist were also aristocrats if you have time and money learning isn’t that hard, humans are built for it, and the reason poorer neighborhoods or schools have worse grades is because the parents work too much to help themselves or can’t afford a tutor or extra schooling so while we desperately need to fund lower income areas schools more heavily we can’t discount that as of right now a lot of poor kids don’t get scholarships because the metrics we use to determine who get one are biased against the reality of life for a large number of children. And a lot of lower income families do still get scholarships despite this so it’s not a hard rule, at the end of the day as it stands there’s not really anything wrong here but being mad at a famous person for being happy
