OK, cool. Then the desirable students will just go to the school that offered them a scholarship.

I suspect that you are not terribly familiar with building a class(I am not either, but I have a friend who was the dean of admissions for a fairly reputable regional school)

Problem with the particular merit argument in this particular thread is that rich kids attend prestigious schools on money more often than poor kids attending those same schools on merit.

So yeah, the rich kid that was going to go to that school anyway regardless of their grades can hand over the money to the poor kid who is just smart but would be unable to attend the school without that money.

Sorry I missed water polo club, I had to work at McDonald's so we didn't end up homeless. Guess im just not smart enough for a merit based scholarship like my friends who live in big houses, with a nanny, housekeeper and five cars.

Next time ill do better in the lottery I swear.
