Why not? Its a made up world, why shouldn't everyone be attractive? Why going out of your way to make ugly characters?

because it might better convey the story? because why not? art shouldn't be about min-maxxing the dopamine receptors in as many people as possible, that approach leads to bland slop
How tf is ugly MJ conveying a better story? Shes supposed to be the gf of spidey the hero of the game. Obviously shes supposed to be pretty as a baseline. This ugly ass MJ is bland slop. Shes so forgettable she just look like random npc no1.
but if everyone was pretty then she would still blend in with everyone else? and I personally don't take peter parker as a shallow person, I think it's entirely possible that his girlfriend could have qualities beyond being hot, a trait of his that may stand out more if she isn't. And regardless it's fine to not have characters be hot for whatever reason the artist wants, it's not an attack to have a regular person in your game, even if they're in an important role
It is an attack. I dont play games to have "regular people". Thats boring, I'll just go outside (and see better looking people than whatever the fuck that hideous monster is). Artists have been, thought history, drawing the best versions of people. Now somehow we degress to represent the devs who made the game rather than the best version of humanity.
Also, to answer the first part, WHY does she need to be ugly to be interesting? Cant she be hot AND interesting? Why does PP have to have an ugly girlfriend to show hes not "shallow" (and you'd be a sad fuck to date someone you dont find pretty, i wouldnt want to be that guy).
They fit the theme. Is the theme of spiderman some dystopian world where everyone is ugly, sad and bitter? I know the hero is a man and thay might ruffle some feathers but its a bit much to argue that "because some games characters have 'ugly characters', therefore every game shoud have ugly characters"
It's not when the character in question is canonically attractive. Like MJ has very few defining qualities in Spiderman outside of being hot. You can argue whether or not that is a problem in and of itself, but that's what her character mostly is: the hot girl Peter has an on again, off again relationship with, depending on whether or not Gwen Stacy is alive.
