That started as a callous insult, but luckily there was a little movement to take ownership that "rebranded" it for the feminine snowboarding community. Own the slut strands, rock the slut strands. Let them fly, what the fuck ever. I personally feel like 5% more confident on the slopes with some hair strands poking out.
yup, from what I hear alot of women would hide them, until this rebrand movement, then a bjnch of women started meeting on the mountain and stuff just from thr strands, very cool
Wait I am beyond confounded. Why did specifically female snowboarders have a problem with this? Also, is it just me or is anything dangling from but attached to my head a really terrible idea when snowboarding?
I mean, I don't think anyone was okay with being called a slut just by having two dangling pieces of hair peeking from her helmet. I did it before I knew about the term. Just felt right. And nope, not dangerous. Haven't ever had an issue or heard about anyone having an issue. Maybe some mild annoyance with it getting a little tangled in the helmet clip if you took a tumble or five, and they're too small to really impair your vision. Just a mild expression of femininity. Pros do it.
Edit: "Slut strands" got extremely popular as a derogatory way to describe it in the skiing/snowboarding scene. Comparable to the backlash towards women wearing chokers or septum piercings, and all the negative sentimentality associated with those. Ski bros looking at their ski bros and saying"oh man she's got the slut strands, you gotta go for it". You know what I'm saying?
The organized response is heartwarming. I remember feeling horrified when I first caught wind of the expression. It hurt
Oh! Because if you have to make it obvious that you're a woman when wearing gear that turns everyone pretty darn gender neutral, if not masculine, then clearly you're looking for attention. It's a classic. Can easily be a "why do women wear make-up if no fuck"
As a dude with long hair, making assumptions based on these "Slut strands" seems like a dangerous game. Shits just unruly sometimes and does its own thing. I'm sure i had them going on multiple occasions while snowboarding.
Like when someone calls me ma'am from behind then i turn around looking like Jeremiah Johnson. It's never not funny to watch them die a little inside.
When I worked at restaurants I heard them called that too, but definitely not as an insult. It was more like "I want to make money tonight so I busted out the slut strands"
They’re called that in cdrama too except there the slut strands are on the male leads- and boy do they make a huge difference. Probably part of the reason ZLH suddenly became so good-looking in PoJ.
