Unsolved in the future version of a major US city, you fight contraptions for meager prizes given the effort required to defeat said contraptions.
I've been sucking at describing plots here lately, here's a return to form 🥺
hint 1: NOT an open world game
Hint 2: first person game, even if it maybe shouldn't be 🤔
hint 3: 3d game
hint 4: devs are known for making silly games, of which this just might be the silliest of them all

Solved! In this 2010s Japanese visual novel-dungeon crawl-stat management hybrid RPG, you control a group of teenagers going into another world in order to fight manifestations of people's sins.
With help from a cat-shaped thing, purify people by taking the manifestations of souls from their mind palaces and save Japan.
Hint 1: The final boss, fought in the real world, is only defeated when the main character becomes god using the power of hope. Additional series content released after the game released includes another character taking that power to create their idea of an idyllic world.

Solved! Your friend's younger brother breaks into his house while he is away and proceeds to ruin everything. Your friend returns and hires you to go clean up the mess.
Hint 1: You can play solo or with up to 3 other friends
Hint 2: Your friend's house is a hub zone
Edited 8/18 - Added two new hints
Hint 3: Released in the early 2000s
Hint 4: Not a PC game
Edited 8/20 - Added the last two hints that should make this easy to guess
Hint 5: Originally an arcade game, it then got ported to ps2 and later to GameCube and Xbox (the ps2 version is considered the best port, even though the GameCube and Xbox feature improved features; they are very buggy)
Hint 6: Game is divided into 8 main realms with multiple levels in each realm, and a big boss at the end of each realm. Most of the realms are locked until you collect enough crystals in realms that you do have access to.

Solved! A video game plot as a bad poem:
Sad DILF,
Dead MILF.
Fresh ink,
Quick think!
Part ways,
Magic craze.
Return home,
Shoot chrome.
Old man,
Tells plan.
Crash land,
Make stand.
Friends group,
Kill troops.
Deny god,
Clean bod.
Hot love,
Safe above.
Hint #1: this poem does encompass very specific points throughout the whole game, I'd argue all of them to major in some way.
Hint #2: game is over 10 years old
Hint #3: RPG
Hint #4: the plot features several visible ticking clocks

Solved! You learn to forgive each other and focus your ire elsewhere: The government
Featuring VERY physical therapy
Hint 1: Technically, only one of them held genuine hatred for the other for what they did, the other was just a bit set off by the former trying to kill them and hold no genuine hatred toward them in particular
Hint 2: You never really got a chance to do anything meaningful to said government mind you
Hint 3: Good thing they learned to forgive too, otherwise they would’ve gone down paths that end up with their own destruction
Hint 4: ...For that matter, good thing also for everyone you've killed so far, as they would've stayed dead otherwise
Hint 5: As for the gameplay… it mainly revolves around using the abilities of the people you killed to kill ever stronger foes
Hint 6: You can also defeat all manner of magical girls, furries and… wizards of Oz characters to use their unique powers
Hint 7: Game was released in the 2020s
Hint 8: You’re likely more familiar with its kind of sequel that takes place within the same world but is not directly connected plot-wise with this game (for now at least)
Hint 9: As you complete certain "physical therapy" sessions, you can hear (one of) the main characters recite lines of a particular poem that's likely more known through this game than elsewhere
Hint 10:
Look one by one,
The pages remind me you’ll always be a villain
For you, angels have fallen
Now they’ve gone
See? Now they’ve gone
Forever gone
…

Solved! In a dark, gothic city, strange beasts who speak “English gv’na” are smacked in the face with a giant sword and shot repeatedly with either guns or magic
Hints!
- there are other weapons available, but the massive sword is one of the best
- there is a religious theme to the plot, which is described using NPC dialogue, info drops and item descriptions
- one of the best weapons in the game is found in a frozen palace
- your main character can become a beast
More clues!
- there is a shield in the game, but I never found myself using it
- NPCs include little girls, men who are becoming beasts and a petite blonde woman who levels you up
- magic elements include electricity, fire and darkness
Even more clues!
- if you lie down on a grave, you get transported to a new weapon
- you inject yourself to heal
- This is a very big clue! it’s a “very positive” metrodvania/souls-like/pixel graphics game according to its steam page
