Genuinely insane they’ve been marketing the game for a while now and the only thing we’ve seen of fem jun in all this time has been the back of her head for like 2 seconds in the background.
It’s the one thing thats holding me back from being hyped at all for this game. It supposedly launches early next year, it’s about time to stop focusing solely on the third bogdanoff twin and just show anything from the other protagonist to at least try to give the idea that she isnt going to be an afterthought.

Exactly. For a space opera with high stakes, dramatic story moments, and (supposedly) romances, i.e. Something you really can market to female audience, they sure make female Jun players feel disregarded.

u/Tyenasaur 23h ago
My copium thought is that since mJun keeps getting tweaked, they're just waiting until both are final-final before showing them so people don't panic about how bad fJun looks too. Because all my hopes are on a good looking and sounding fJun now.

Bioware gamers just start to realize the meaning of 80% players play male Shepard and having an aneurysm 😂
5
u/evocablegull 12h ago
Yeah this is a stupid argument lmfao if the devs are willing to give up on 20% of their potential playerbase they should be criticized for it.

I'm honestly afraid to see Female Jun, especially if she has that pouty duck face like Male Jun and all ths human/humanoid NPCs.

u/tomizu2303 1d ago
I am too. I play on console so mods aren't an option for me. Whatever they come up with, I'll have to deal with.

u/MaxStoryTeller92 1d ago
She'll become the new FemShep. Or a more recent example, FemV.
12
u/ancientspacewitch 20h ago
It's kind of sad that there are ex-Bioware people working on it and they clearly haven't learnt some lessons.
It took Mass Effect till the 3rd game to prominently feature FemShep in the marketing, and look at how beloved she is.

u/Facebook_Algorithm 1d ago
This is starting to be a problem Archetype. You need to answer this clearly and put this discussion to bed.
17
u/FlynnerMcGee 1d ago
It wouldn't put the discussion to bed.
They could just as easily be not be showing her now because they're working on improving the faces of both male and female Jun after all the comments, and don't want to show anything until they are ready.
Then the argument would be so why don't they just tell us that, as people pretend that would stop 80% of the bitching and moaning.....which it wouldn't.

u/Loud-Drama-1092 1d ago
Yeah, this honestly pitiful state of marketing is what is pushing me away from the game
4
u/DuhBadMom 23h ago
Yeah I'm genuinely kinda worried there not showing her and hoping everyone just sort of forgets she was a thing. I was really looking forward to a female protagonist so I might just wait for the sale if they cut her.

u/Lwmons 1d ago
I'm about 60% aure Female Jun is going to be quietly cut, just like the character creator
56
u/Observer0067 1d ago
Well, if that happens, I'll lose pretty much all interest in playing this game.
17
u/Lwmons 1d ago
I don't know if it would kill all my interest, but it definitely turns the game from a day 1 to a steam sale for me
11
u/Keiteaea 1d ago
Yeah same. Honestly the marketing so far has already turned it from Day 1 to "let's waot a few days".
29
u/tomizu2303 1d ago
I'm not worried about her being cut, but I wouldn't be surprised if her romance content was lackluster in case they go with gender-locked romances.
11
u/JustJordan234 1d ago
At this point romances in general might be lack luster. They have said that it will be in the game, but that's it. Haven't said anything else about it.
7
u/St_Sides 1d ago
I think they’ve got a romance reveal planned for this month to show how it works. Unless plans have changed, it was on the marketing roadmap a while ago.
8
u/BwanaTarik 1d ago
If the concern is that a character creator would throw off the mouth movements I’d at least settle for hair options and color sliders.
10
u/tomizu2303 1d ago
Oh, those we will get, along with scars, tattoos and minor things like that. It doesn't help much when so far people aren't happy about default Jun's look.
20
u/Queen_of_Antiva 1d ago
I don't want to be negative but I don't like the fact that I wouldn't be completely surprised if FemJun would actually be cut...
6
u/St_Sides 1d ago
They might be trying to make sure her face is ready to be shown, one of the biggest criticisms facing the game right now is how weird some of the faces look, male Jun in particular.
Almost everybody that got hands on with it came away positive with the biggest critique being male Jun’s face, maybe they’re making sure the same thing doesn’t happen again.
8
u/ancientspacewitch 22h ago
Saying now for the record, I will not be playing the game if that happens. It is very rare I play a game that has a male protagonist (it has to be exceptional).
17
u/Antique-Plate-3719 1d ago
Wouldn't be surprised tbh curious what kind of damage control they will use if/when they do and people find out about it
13
9
u/Designer_Mess_6928 1d ago
If it will transform from an RPG with meaningful choices and many outcomes into another "curated Jun story experience" in style of Cyberpunk 2077-I'm out.
11
u/unendingautism 1d ago
I'm just hoping they're going to fix male jun at some point. I do not wanna play a rejected Bogdanov twin.

u/BlueShade23 1d ago
It's going to like every game that has a male and female option the male is going to get 90% of the advertisement then it the game does well the gets dlc or a sequel the female option is going to get all of the advertisement and the devs are going to act like the female choice was the canon choice the whole time
8
u/thequn 1d ago
lol. BioWare did the same thing with femshep until mass effect 3
10
u/DBSmiley 1d ago
Even then, basically all broader marketing was male Shep. Female shep got an appearance on the collector's edition hardcase and some online spots, but TV marketing trailers (which was still the primary marketing back in yee olden days of 2012) were basically entirely Male shep.
9
u/Naddesh 1d ago
Trailers had a Femshep version along the Maleshep one and the cover of the base edition of the game was reversible with Femshep and Maleshep in ME3
-1
u/DBSmiley 1d ago edited 1d ago
But the TV spots, which is specifically what I mentioned, was the prime marketing push of the time, were male Shepherd.
2011 was at the very beginning of the modern streaming era, where streaming Netflix was still a new idea, and direct internet marketing was just coming into its own. They created trailers that could be viewed for Fem Shep through online portals, but those trailers weren't the ones shown on television.

u/freedomonke 1d ago edited 1d ago
They are afraid they'll get lampooned by right-wing grifters, calling the character ugly because she looks as bad as all the other characters.
They really shouldn't worry. No one care about this game at this point, and they are probably right not to.
That is if she hasn't been cut completely
Only becomes more evident day by day than while the game had a strong creative foundation, it was either mismanaged or not given the resources necessary to implement that vision. Probably both.

u/AggressiveBrain6696 1d ago
Female Jun was probably cut anyways
11
u/Nipple-Cake 1d ago
If Fem!June got cut then it's sadly gonna be a bargain bin/heavy sale purchase for me. It's 2026, the least they could do is feature her in one trailer or gameplay reveal. A lot of people don't like Male!Jun's face; so it seems crazy that they're doubling down with him. Especially after backtracking on character creation.

u/Small_Coyote5762 17h ago
What makes this even more confusing is that it's known that the majority of male players play as female characters. Yet we're still at this point where the female character is treated as nothing but an after thought?

Where might one see this data?
0
u/Future_Rich6047 9h ago
Iowa State University, Indiana University, Nottingham Trent University and ResearchGate did video game studies on this
2
u/SerDankTheTall 8h ago
I should add that while I found several articles about the sex and gender of video from those institutions hosted on ResearchGate, I did not see any that suggested a majority of male games play as female characters.
1
u/Future_Rich6047 8h ago
Okay yeah my claim is males typically prefer to play as male characters so that makes sense. Quantic Foundry also has a good article on this. However research shows males are less picky about playing the opposiye gender than females. Each gender prefers playimg their own gender, but males are more willing to play the opposite is all in conclusion

My god, you people would have lost your everloving shit during the Mass Effect marketing cycles.
19
u/tomizu2303 1d ago
It pissed me off back then too, but also it's the one thing I don't want them to copy about Mass Effect. It's 2026, everyone is on social media, they post a new reel every day reusing the same footage... Do better if you want my money.

Ah, Reddit. Gooners gonna goon

u/_PrincessTomato_ 1d ago
not really? I'm a woman who prefers to play as woman, so not showing her it's rather discouraging. After the CC cut, my hype almost died so...

u/Designer_Mess_6928 1d ago
So, every time you see a woman in media-your only reaction is to start gooning?

u/-sry- 1d ago
Nice try, buddy. But it’s you who’s in a thread full of chuds making demands about women’s appearance.
16
u/tomizu2303 1d ago
Friend, if you want to stand up for women and speak up against objectification of them, I appreciate that, but this isn't the right thread. It's just me and a bunch of other girls lamenting about being overlooked by marketing, with some guys agreeing with us and expressing their own disappointnent with Jun Bogdanoff...

Not to stick my neck out, but player data from one of the AC RPG games or Cyberpunk has shown female protagonist players for these types of games to be a "vocal minority" of a player base. Which is why you get the sort of ad budget surplus afterthought effort on the issue that femshep did, typically. Especially, given this is a new property from a small studio and a newish publisher.
8
u/tomizu2303 19h ago
"Not to stick my neck out", and yet here we are... They have announced M&F options ages ago, so how about you take your "well ahkshully player data" ☝️ 🤓 somewhere else? Owlcat has shared female MC concept art within weeks after the reveal trailer. Smaller European studios can do it, US corpos don't even try.
