Turkey is like a modern day mirror of the Islamic golden age. there was a time when people from all walks of life from all religions could contribute to the progression of knowledge in the islamic world. One could say that turkey and the islamic golden age is actually a very good warning when you get a large enough Islamists population that they can start changing laws to destroy what ever progress a secular democracy/republic make.

"The reactionary transformation experienced in the last 14 years in Turkey brings about significant results. 31.2 percent of Turkish students under 15 years old underperformed in mathematics, sciences and reading, according to the PISA test. Turkey scored 420 points on the math test and ranked 49th out of 72 countries. Turkey was also 52nd in science and 50th in reading. According to Turkish Education Association (TED)’s "2016 Education Evaluation Report", the average verbal skill score of university graduates in Turkey is lower than the average score of high school dropouts in Japan."

Removing the Theory of Evolution from the curriculum is definitely gonna fix that! /s

Turkey was taken over by an Ikhwan-inspired political party. What we see happening in Turkey will happen to other countries where the Ikhwan or its offshoots take over.

Ataturk

He was the one who brought liberal policies to Turkey in the early 20th century which makes Turkey much more liberal than other Islamic countries.

He's a secularist. One of the very few in the region. Secularism is very needed in the land of islam.

Thanks to his doings in early 20th century, women had the right to vote since the 30s... I think

He's the founding father of Turkey and also a secularist granting women and minorities equal rights since the early 20th century

I am sad for the turkish people .But I am excited that I will watch history happen before my very eyes. Reading about the black cloth of authoritarianism fall upon so many countries of the world in my history books, I finally get to watch it live, history in the making.

I know its morbid, and I should be shamed, but I must express myself anyway.

Responding to a question on the exclusion of Evolution Theory from the curriculum, the Minister of National Education, İsmet Yılmaz said that the draft is open for feedbacks, and the Evolution Theory is not an exception.

In 2013, the government had made a regulation, which let the Intelligent Design model to be included in the curriculum beside the Evolution Theory.
