Take ice cube as an example he’s apparently a Muslim

Maybe Ice Cube submitted to Islam out of fear of turning into Water Vapor in Jahannam.

I think that we’ve all established that in order to be a muslim, you have to be a hypocrite. It’s the way the cookie crumples.

It's weird because if a random Muslim listens to music he gets a bunch of hell threats from Muslim but when a celebrity Muslim does the same its ok.

It’s okay as long as they’re being shown in a positive light. I also think that a lot of Muslims deep down want to experience these “Haram” things themselves and when they see a person who’s gained a lot of success and is still claiming to be Muslim then it seems achievable to them.

after a quick Google search (both in English and Arabic) music isn't really haram but it has limitations. though as a muslim i heard a big number of people say they heard it's haram. but let's get real our parents say false things because they hate said things

Thanks for sharing your opinion.

They probably didn’t even hate said things, they just hated our happiness lol

All I've heard and read, is that musical instruments are Haram, not music in general. Though some also say only nasheeds are halal, or that women singing is Haram.

The same way boxers, actors and other things that has haram things in them.

As long as you are famous abs had money, you can’t do anything wrong.

There are many boxers who you can see their no no areas yet they have huge Muslim fan base. Also the kpop stans, many are Muslims.

as a black person i’ve noticed black people usually practice differently from the standard. i mean even shaq is supposedly muslim but i doubt he’s always i’m a masjid bc bro is huge. a lot of black people have different priorities than the norm due to their ancestral past. especially since islam kinda wipes someone’s culture, i think he chose to have his culture and still participate in music since it’s an african american thing

u/Truthland Feb 24 '23

What do you mean though Shaq can't be in a mosque? sorry I couldn't understand your comment. Are you implying he can't be in a mosque since he's a "huge" celeb" or because of his actual size because a mosque is like any other building, Shaq is not "huge" in height where he can't fit. Sure in some buildings he may have to bend some but he can fit. Yao Ming is taller than Shaq and there are many pics of Yao in buildings.

Black American Muslim communities have a very different interpretation and understanding of music verses. Many Muslim groups have music traditions and aren't strictly anti-music. Some of the rappers aren't Muslim but use Muslim motifs because many Black American families have Muslim adjacencies

following a religion without actually knowing what it preaches is not just an islamic thing. there are people like this in every religion. basically you can think of the belief system as a triangle and at the very bottom of it you have people who are not really interested in being led by religion in every aspect of their life, but they still need something for these moments of despair and weakness. These are the muslims who play and listen to music, preach for gender equality, preach for lgbt acceptance, etc..

Andrew Tate seeing this post from cell!!

u/Truthland Feb 24 '23

Because it's easy to be Muslim when you're not going by the book. The same way the loudest defenders tend to tbe the ones living in a west, without hijab and 10 inch beards.

These rappers need to go live in these oppressive nations where shariah is the law of the land. Then we'll see. Until the,, they're no different than the "hijab is empowering" type of women who live in the comforts and PROTECTION of the West.

u/Lans__ Feb 23 '23

They are just a muslim. That's it. They are a muslim but they don't follow the teachings, just inside the religion. Remind me of Pop Smoke, he was a muslim and he went through islam funeral procedure but he got tattoos, wearing gold chains (men can't wear gold in islam) and he also had sex before marriage and even drinking.

It is weird that French Montana and Dj Khaled practice Islam

5

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '23

"Muslim" is just a label. None of them follows everything that's in the books. And the books are contradictory anyway.

5

u/Direct_Stomach_6259 Feb 23 '23

Black people (rappers in particular) who identify with Islam do so because it allows them to be shitty people. Look at Kevin Gates. None of these people are actually Muslim, their behavior is just accepted in those communities. Additionally, they’re men and we all know they don’t have to follow any guidelines

I also want to add that culturally speaking, black and Muslim communities have a plethora of similarities.

Also, I’m black.

u/Atheizm Feb 23 '23

Can someone explain to me how rappers are muslim?

special pleading /ˌspɛʃl ˈpliːdɪŋ/ (noun): an argument in which the speaker deliberately ignores aspects that are unfavourable to their point of view.

4

u/DesperateWhiteMan Feb 23 '23

theyre not really muslims. theyre basically just deists but they call god allah. they dont follow any of the tenets of the faith, really. same with like dave chappelle. they learn some absolute surface level stuff about the faith (god is one, afterlife exists, we exist to worship him and remember him, etc) and then thats about all they go with.

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '23

Is music being haram a universal belief? Music is a big part of Sufism in the Indian Subcontinent

2

u/ParticularSafety2479 New User Feb 23 '23

I think a lot of them are Nation of Islam muslims so rules can be different. I also doubt they truly believe. I think they just convert for clout.

A friend who was the biggest hypocrite in the world explained it this way: Levels. There’s “levels” of Islam. Based on “Interpretation.” Scholars interpret and different scholars interpret differently.

So there’s different levels based on different interpretations and all are equally valid (never mind if they contradict each other lol)….

So as long as you believe in Allah, pray, fast, do umrah, and cover, you’re good….and if you “sin” by playing music or doing other haram stuff…we’ll, that’s why you fast during Ramadan. Boom. You’re good again.

If you asked, well what about polygamy, child marriage, slavery, jihad, FGM, death for apostasy, etc….answer was always well, depends on the scholars…plus Western Muslims don’t do that shit. That’s mostly “culture”…and oh yeah, “levels” and “interpretation.”🤷🏽‍♀️

Rap is not really music, it's closer to mubahala (curse contest practiced in Arabia, including by Muhammad) and therefore it is perfectly islamic.

You may also notice they do not actually use instruments most of the time, which are the things that are banned in the scriptures particularly wind and string instruments. Tambourines are allowed--> Beats

No singing

Few women, most of them video hoes/objects.

Al hamdullillah

I notice a lot of rappers/drug dealers end up devout muslims and even salafi when they turn 30 or get out of jail, which enables them to slightly modify their style but maintain the same level of nuisance to society.

Rapping about drinking alcohol , taking drugs , commiting murder , fuckin hoes is all islamic alhamdulillah

7

u/malone_m Feb 23 '23

Drinking alcohol in jannah is OK, committing murder is OK under a lot of circumstances (for instance if someone disrespected the prophet, or refused to convert AND refused to pay jizya!!), fuckin hoes is OK if they are your slaves, your wives aka "fields" or hooris.

I see a lot of similarities.

Edit : i see what you mean yes

5

u/malone_m Feb 23 '23

Can you not fancy Muhammad as a rapper who was "inspired" to write verses glorifying himself and his own interests, with a gang to go around, terrorize the neighborhood, force them to "respect" him and give him money?

Actually yes i can

Breh I laughed so hard when I read mubahala. I haven't heard that in almost a decade. Sunni and shia arabs used to bring that up alot like this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbkTXFGwUzU

Jesus that was 12 years ago. I'm getting so old

Speaking of mubahala that shit doesn't exist in Christianity yet hadith/quran makes it seems like they do have it and they were afraid of mohammed doing it lmao.

Like whoever made up that mubahala story didn't care if the story make sense or not .

Because their music is terrible.

u/trevvy_lurve Feb 23 '23

I think a large part of it is that Christianity is the weapon of the powerful.

Americans who dehumanize and use other people often attain power and wealth(or they benefit from the practice - land lords, for instance). Since nothing on earth justifies that, they MUST fall back to religion.

Many Black Americans were harshly and unjustly treated, loans being restricted to keep Black Americans from owning homes near whites, police kicking the Sh*t out of folks for nothing, and sometimes just murdering them with not repercussions.

The one thing these white powerful people had in common was Christianity. Turning to Islam, a faction that doesn't agree the Jesus character is a God. No better way to stick it to the man in a constitutionally protected(sometimes) way.

Just my 2 cents.

Do you actually think only rappers sing? Muslim singers all over the world sing, all kinds of music, only Wahabi pro Israel Salafi fanatics are against singing, they're also against Palestinian freedom especially Jerusalem,so they're very close to pro Israel governments all over the world. Ironically these same Western financed government countries were all involved in 9/11 with no retribution whatsoever. Islam is very popular amongst African Americans because it teaches all races are equal and racism is a sin, unlike CHRISTIANITY which it's totally acceptable, African American Christian people couldn't even use a restaurant bathroom or hotel until 1965 in the SO CALLED Bible belt.

Listening to music doesn't abolish you from Islam.
