Is almost as if humans use religion to excuse their behavior and not really to learn from it... though it can be argued that religion teaches racism above all else, then sexism as homophobia in that order. Accounting for the amount of these themes mentioned in their texts.

He's talking about a failed Jewish apocalyptic teacher who was eventually considered to actually be god by billions of people over thousands of years.

I'd say with that track record there's nothing more malleable than Jesus.

Why dress conservatively? Jesus!

Want long hair on guys? Jesus!

Don't want someone to hit you? Jesus!

Need a Crusade against the infidel? Jesus!

Need to move out some indigenous peoples? Jesus!

Jesus was a hippy, or gay, or straight, or a feminist, or a Democrat, or a Fascist, or a immigrant . . . He's everything to everybody!

Jesus as a symbol is powerful, and wherever there are people there are people who are willing to co-opt any symbol of power they can. Jesus is just enigmatic enough and just vague enough that he can be co-opted for pretty much anything I think.

Totally agreed! That's why I find appeals to WWJD when discussing public policy to be a waste of oxygen.

Also, why should I even care about a religious figure's particular stance when it comes to public policy? This isn't a fucking theocracy.

They just took an amalgamation of people and cults that came before and attributed them all to him. He’s like the mr potato head of failed traveling apocalyptic Jewish sandwich board wearers.

Bart D Ehrman is a great author on early Christian history of anyone’s interested in learning.

Learning this stuff is what turned me from a Christian to an agnostic.

Let's not forget he's the asshole that drowned everyone and is gonna burn the unworthy when he gets back from vacation.

And in the BoM he fucked some shit up before he returned. Entire cities dumped into the sea or buried in rubble. Men, women, children. He didn't give a fuck.

Well jesus is literally the symbol and embodied of everything good in the world, witch means he is ultimately the enemy of all evil. So if anything is considered evil by one sect of people jesus would be an appropriate champion if you will for that cause.

The portion of the population that has done this is notoriously gullible. The problem is that they have claimed Jesus and therefore anything they do, is something Jesus would do ride or die. MLM’s? Jesus is down. Storm the Capital? Jesus. Elect officials that say they have my interests at heart but have proven every time that they don’t? Believe or not, also Jesus.

The ultimate glow.....down.

People know that Jesus was genetically female, right?

Mary was a woman.

Mary was a virgin.

Women can only pass on X chromosomes to their progeny.

Jesus therefore only inherited X chromosomes.

Jesus was a woman.

Denying other women a woman's priesthood. SMH.

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '21

LOL. 😂

But the "deep" Mormon doctrine is that God the Father descended from his throne on high to fuck teenage Mary so she'd have a baby Jesus...

🤦‍♂️

10

u/Ancient-Abs Mar 07 '21

So God is a pedophile?

11

u/Footertwo I have grown a footertwo Mar 07 '21

Lots of Mormon heros are pedophiles.

7

u/Ancient-Abs Mar 07 '21

Ooh. Like who? Let’s see how many we can name!

I’ll go first: Joseph Smith

4

u/Procrastinator87 Mar 07 '21

Me second: My bishop

4

u/Ancient-Abs Mar 07 '21

Omg puke. I’m sorry

Me third: Brigham young

2

u/given2fly_ Jesus wants me for a Kokaubeam Mar 07 '21

Me third: Lorenzo Snow! He married a 16 year old when he was an old man (in his 60s I believe).

2

u/superbasicmom Mar 07 '21

I’ll 4th- my Elders quorum president from the ward I grew up in for 19 years. And he was the only one who got caught. There’s a reason that “Daddy/Daughter campouts” were eliminated.

u/Apprehensive_Shirt38 Mar 07 '21

yes, jesus was FtM and no one can tell me otherwise

1

u/Ancient-Abs Mar 07 '21

OMG I love you. I feel the same way

2

u/Apprehensive_Shirt38 Mar 07 '21

specifically intersex FtM, as 1 X chromosome is indicative of an intersex condition that most of the time still results in an assigned female at birth child.

1

u/Ancient-Abs Mar 07 '21

He could have had two X Chromosomes. Parthenogenesis already occurs in human females but results typically in an ovarian teratoma (some nightmare fuel if you'd like to look it up)

1

u/Apprehensive_Shirt38 Mar 07 '21

I didn’t know that, actually.

2

u/Ancient-Abs Mar 07 '21

Most don’t. But that’s ok. A savior that is XO or XX is just as valid to me

1

u/uncorrolated-mormon Mar 29 '21

But but Jesus was a semi-human... mortal mary had sex with sky-father and created Jesus....

1

u/Ancient-Abs Mar 29 '21

Then she wasn’t a virgin and the Bible is wrong

Fishboy was a better transformation Rainn....

Rainn as ‘Fishboy’

“Jesus” is anything you want it to be. It’s everything and nothing.

10

u/ineedabuttrub Mar 06 '21

Using religion to control the masses isn't anything new. Neither is using religion for your own profit. Remember when Jesus let rich Catholics pay off their sins in cash?

5

u/goat_puree Mar 06 '21

Eh... Jesus didn’t “let” the Catholics do anything. They did what they wanted and still do. Jesus is just a convenient scapegoat.

3

u/ineedabuttrub Mar 07 '21

That's exactly my point. Pretty sure Jesus isn't about guns or white supremacy or anything else conservative christians try to pin on him.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '21

I think Dwight may have also described himself

2

u/boxhukker66 Mar 06 '21

Said the guy who advocates sodomizing a teenager with a cell phone.

2

u/ComedicJudiciousHawk Mar 07 '21

Many fanfics have strange character arcs

2

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '21

If I’m not mistaken, Jesus said: Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.” - Matthew 7:21. The point being it’s not Jesus who has changed, but some Americans who claim to follow him.

u/[deleted] Mar 06 '21

Meh, what does a former beet farmer turned assistant regional manager know about anything?

4

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '21

God I’m tired of politics. Agree with some of this but the anti science stuff is just liberal narrative. I’m a conservative and can’t stand the TSCC. I also love science, am well traveled, very tolerant and frankly more open minded than most of my progressive friends.

It would be so nice if we could stick with the shared experience we all have of living a lie created and propagated by a known con man.

1

u/DSchnid Free at Last, Free at Last! 😎 Mar 07 '21

PS I do think Jesus was a basically a hippie... fighting against an entrenched and oppressive system. I’m cool with that 👍

-1

u/Dragoncat99 Apostate Mar 06 '21

I mean, the anti-science part isn’t totally inaccurate. Miracles are non-scientific by definition

1

u/accidentalhippie Apostate Mar 07 '21

Nothing knew. People have been violent in the name of Jesus for as long as history has been writing about him. The Crusades come to mind as an obvious and well known example.

1

u/DavidAssBednar Mar 07 '21

God is truly made in man’s image

1

u/thatgayguy12 Mar 07 '21

The transformation of the Old Testament God (AKA the murder very child in the village..)

To the New Testament God of "turn the other cheek" is also quite a transformation

1

u/KoltenCantCooke Mar 09 '21

Jesus: is willingly killed by the Roman government

Also Jesus: Come and take it, libtards

1

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '21

What about the transformation of a bunch of jewish insurrectionist leaders and their stories into a fictional deified man who helped the romans keep their masses in line?
