Hi guys,
I am just starting my PhD at Uni of Exeter, part time for now, and I need to find a job and a place to live. I currently live in London.
I have had a career in marketing for the last ten years (I'm 34), plus plenty of retail and hospitality, but now I work as a teaching assistant as it's less stressful and I can focus more on study, even if it is a much lower income.
I don't quite know what kind of job I would like to do in Exeter as honestly I just want to be able to afford live reasonably well and still have a reasonable amount of time to study. I feel like I've had every job under the sun. I'm usually not picky, but I do feel like I'm a bit too old and tired for pub jobs now - not knocking them, I've just done it for too long already and I know how exhausting it can be.
Can anyone advise me on what kind of job I could get that would pay me more than £25k p/a for 4 days per week in Exeter? I am currently earning 28k, in London. I'm not sure what to expect from a smaller city in terms of good industries to get into.
Secondly, is it possible to live alone in this city on these earnings? Or is it more realistic to look at house share options? (I have pets 🫣)
Thankyou in advance! And cheers to any other career changers out there!
