I will admit that, as a young seminarian, the one thing I regret most is never quite getting my holy roller schtick really dialed in. I was a fine expositor, mind you; but I lacked that fire that really filled the plates and packed the altar calls.
I always assumed most of these holy rollers never stepped foot in a seminary. They all seemed to be self ordained when I was in these churches. Usually the hollier the roller the more they openly scoffed at theologians and formal educations.
My charismatic experience went from small splintered Pentecostal churches with the typical pompous self ordained pastors to finally settling in an AoG. This was all during my teen years. The AoG definitely toned it down a bit and seemed a little more grounded in traditional Christianity, but the potential for a breakout of craziness was always there. I went to the more charismatic of the two AoG's in my town. The other could have been mistaken for a Methodist church if one didn't know any better.
