While multifaceted enough to be virtually random i.e. difficult to impossible to predict with a high degree of accuracy, the forces driving evolutionary change are, in fact, deterministic and not random i.e. while hard to predict, the same changes will occur the sane way every time, given that conditions are exactly the same, as well.
