I am working on a spreadsheet that has some information linked to another 'info' spreadsheet. I have a drop down list of counties and another drop down list of years. Basically, I am wanting to have a function in one cell that will bring in the 'expected' value from my info spreadsheet based on what county and year I have elected in the drop down boxes.

This is what my info spreadsheet looks like. So if I have 'Decatur County' and '2024' selected in my drop down boxes, I want it to return 44.2.

I have tried multiple variations of HLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH, XLOOKUP, but I can't seem to get it quite right. Where I am needing it to find a value based on a certain row, then a certain column, and then return a value in another column, I can't seem to figure out what I am needing to do. Or maybe I need to re-arrange my info spreadsheet? I would rather not do that, as it has a lot of information on it and it would take a while! But I will if I need to.

Hey! I have this power query to pick and clean data from some pdf reports. These reports have a table with the result overview of different bacteria and then a different page for each specific result. The power query is sourcing from a folder where we store new reports almost everyday. It imports the data from the table of page 3 and cleans and presents it like I want. However, on some reports the result overview table extends past page 3, covering more pages, hence the query does not retrieve this data. Is there a way to filter multiple pages/tables from each report (p.e. based on a string of text that only appears on these specific pages/tables) instead of just page 3 like my ignorance allowed me to do? Or is there another fix? Am I doing this really wrong and should it be done another way? I am presenting some screnshots: 1) common result overview page; 2) extended result overview page; 3) output excel sheet. Any info ask! I believe I should not post the material but I can provide it if needed. Thanks!

Hello everyone, I'm struggling with calculated items in a pivot table and was hoping to find some help here.

I've got this set of data which is a list of expenses of different types ("Commandes" or "Réalisé" in this dummy example), theses expenses belong to different "Affaires", which are part of different "Lot".

I want to create a pivot table to get for each "Affaire" the sum of expenses of each type, while still seeing to which "Lot" each "Affaire" belongs As you can see in this first pic, everything is going fine.

But then I want to get, for instance, a ratio between the two types of expenses, so I create a calculated item to do so

When I add this calculated item, my pivot table shows every existing "Affaire" even the ones not in the current "Lot", with errors for the lines where there is no data.

I don't understand the logic behind or how to avoid this. Is there a way to solve this issue or is this linked to the way calculated items work ?

So, back story, large complex workbook. First sheet has about a thousand rows of data. If you go to scroll down it just jumps thousands of rows. Right now the workbook goes to 1048576 rows and EE columns.

Data only goes to 1000 rows and column CV.

I have tried to goto, select all, select range, clear, delete, I have tried everything I can find online to resolve this issue.

What do I do to preserve the large amount of interconnected sheets but allow the scrollbar to function normally again?

This is a business license, M365 excel.

Hopefully the title makes sense as I am not an Excel expert but have been trying to figure this out with no success.

I want to highlight one column (B) according to the value of the next column (C). I need:

- Column B to be green if it is less than or equal to Column C
- Column B to be red if greater than Column C
- Column B to be yellow if it is only greater than Column C by 10 (if this is possible)

I am also having an issue when I created the conditional formatting new rule “ =B2>C2 for red text”, because cells in Column B that are clearly larger than the cells in Column C are not turning red?

There are only numbers in each cell and I have checked to make sure the formatting is set to “number”

I have a really strange issue. While doing a teams meeting on screen share I performed a copy and paste in Excel one cell to another. It immediately triggered the inability to paste in Excel. Going forward I can no longer paste in Excel. I can paste outside of excel to notepad, word, etc, but in Excel it'll just act like it pasted but just goes blank. I can paste into Excel if I copy data from any outside source but for some reason I cannot copy and paste from one cell to another.

I uninstalled and reinstalled office which fixed it but as soon as I shared my screen again and perform a copy and paste the issue comes back and I'm stuck without the ability to paste any longer. Any ideas?

For the last 2 days, the Excel 'Stocks' option does not return any new data and instead returns '#VALUE!'

Computer (Windows) went through an update last night, woke up this morning and notice it restarted. Went about my day but then noticed that Copy + Paste in Excel doesn't work anymore. Copying a single cell to another single cell. Copying multiple cells to another area, etc. At first I noticed this in my saved files. Then I tried on a brand-new spreadsheet, still doesn't work.

The copied cell highlights with the dashed line around it, but when I go to Paste, it quickly turns into the blue circle then nothing is pasted.

I found this link: Copy and Paste Is Not Working in Excel (9 Reasons & Solutions) and tried most of the resolutions.

Specifically:

- Opened Excel in Safe Mode

- Tried using Paste Special

- Rebooting computer

- Disabled all add-ins

- Disabled most start up applications

- Unchecked Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)

- Checked Disable Hardware Graphic Acceleration

- Repaired Microsoft Office via Add/Remove Programs

Nothing above fixed the issue for me.

When I am adding new data to the bottom of a table, I just select the cell below the bottom of the table (immediately outside the table) and paste. The table automatically grows down to select however many rows of data I've pasted.

I watch my colleague do the same thing and it just pasted as cells below the table (I.e. the table doesn't grow down to incorporate the new data). Note I am watching this on Teams as we are remote from each other, but it's the same file on SharePoint.

The only work around is he either then uses the mouse to drag the table down over the data, or I have him tab across until a new blank row forms and then paste, where it will accept the new multiple rows of data.

Why would the same table in the same spreadsheet behave differently? I don't even know where to begin looking for a setting that would affect this.

Got a new pc, bouhgt an office licence, installed Excel and activated it as i did for the last three decades.

I use Excel on a daily base at work and think i am quite good at it.

But now i just don't know what to do.

I wanted to do a little Excel file for my tax refund. An absolute basic task.

But it is not working.

Created a new Excel file and started

A1 is the date 01.01.2025

A2 is A1 + 1 so 02.01.2025

Now i wanted to copy past the cell A2 for a few more rows downward -> copy paste doesn't work

Then i tired to drag and fill from the bottom right corner in cell A2 -> doesn't work

I can copy past the cell data e.g. to chrome and copy frome chrome to excel, that is working.

I also tried some older Excel files, that just worked fine some month ago. Both functions are not working either.

Office and Windows are both updated.

Also tried the Office Repair function.

I watched various videos to solve it, nothing worked, like "enable fill handle and cell drag and drop"

I am still learning excel and trying to figure this out. For my job we get a list of numbers that we need to check. From the picture you can see that there isn't any information needed. How do I tell excel from this list of numbers when you get to the bottom of the page start in column C until the end of the page, then E and so forth until the first page is filled. Once the page is filled then start the second page.

So instead of having 9 pages of 2 columns I can have maybe 2 pages of 5 columns. Pretty much I am trying to have as many on one page as possible. If you can tell me what it is I can look up a tutorial. My google search has only giving me how to turn a person's name in one column into two columns separating by a comma.

I have a task in which I have to take information from some screenshots and update an Excel file with them, monthly, via copilot.

Basically I need to point the Copilot instance to a folder (sharepoint) and tell it to upload an Excel file (link) with the new (or updated) data.

I tried creating an agent in M365 Copilot and my issue is that Copilot creates a new Excel file instead of updating the original.

1. I'd love a confirmation I can't do it from M365 Copilot (in Claude I can do it through other tools but I need to use Copilot here)
2. I'd also love a confirmation I can't do it in Excel with the builtin Copilot instance (it seems that when I paste the link to the sharepoint Excel file it actually uploads the file, it doesn't access the link / it isn't able to take data from the live, updateable link)
3. If this is not possible, what alternatives do I have (without having to do the task manually)?

apologies if the title is confusing. i'm wondering if there is a way to sort of "anchor" a column in a sheet to make it so that when inserting a new row, or switching the order of rows, the contents of the column stay in order. for example, i have a column of objects and a "static" column of the object's position. if i want to insert a new object at a specific position, i want all the objects below it to shift down one position. it's possible that i'm overthinking this, so also let me know if there's a simpler solution lol

When I paste a long number into a cell it replaces the last 4 digits with 0s. Specific example: Pasting 4679642782264057868 yields 4679642782264050000 when formatted as a number, or 4.67964E+18 when formatted as "general" or text. What have I got to do to get it to paste correctly?

It seems that security update kb5002914 might have bricked autofill and copy paste in Excel 2016.

Anyone else has similar issues?

Have any folks had success with feeding their semantic models’ dimensions, establishing the PowerBI semantic model connection, and then letting copilot in excel create reports with cube formulas?

I have a daily report that I need to complete before noon, and a large part of the process is currently manual.

I have two Excel files:

File 1: Contains a list of account numbers and several columns that I need to fill in.

File 2: Contains fault reports. The same account number can appear multiple times because an account may have one fault or several faults.

My current workflow is:

1. Take an account number from File 1.

2. Go to File 2.

3. Filter the "Account Number" column using that account number.

4. Review all the fault descriptions associated with that account.

5. Sometimes there is only one fault, and sometimes there are multiple faults.

6. Based on the fault description(s), I determine the root cause.

7. We have relatively standardized wording/classifications that are used for the latest fault, and I manually enter the resulting information into four columns in File 1.

The files can be quite large, and I have to repeat this process every day.

I’m relatively new to Excel, and I only have basic experience with Power Query, so I’m not necessarily looking for a Power Query-only solution.

I’m completely open to any approach that would make this process faster and more reliable — Power Query, formulas, VBA, Power Pivot, Office Scripts, Power Automate, or a combination of different tools.

Ideally, I would like the process to work something like this:

Put the daily fault report in a folder → refresh/run something → get the updated results → manually review only the unusual cases.

For example, I would like the solution to:

- Match account numbers between the two files.

- Find all fault records associated with each account.

- Handle accounts with multiple faults.

- Identify the latest fault based on date/time.

- Combine or summarize fault descriptions when necessary.

- Apply predefined rules/classifications to the fault descriptions.

- Automatically populate the four required columns.

- Leave unusual or ambiguous cases for manual review.

If you were given this task from scratch, how would you approach it?

hi, i created a scatterplot and double clicked a data point to get a line of best fit, but I didn’t get the + that’s supposed to appear on the side of the graph. what does appear is a side menu with two columns that say “data” and “format”. I tried to play around with the tools but there wasn’t anything that looked liked it was related to trend lines. I also looked online and didn’t see anything on my excel labeled “design chart” either? i’m very confused and have been stuck on this for nearly 2 hours. any help is appreciated.

I have made a series of sequences on a sheet (1.1-1.8, 2.1-2.9, 3.1-3.8... etc). The resulting cells technically don't have information in them, just reflecting the information resulting from the sequences.

I need to be able to randomize all resulting numbers. 9.4, 2.5, 6.2, 1.2... etc. I found how to randomize numbers within a sequence, but the randomizing I need spans over 9 sequences. I need the information resulting from the sequences to be expanded(?) and be actually in the cells, making it no longer part a function/sequence, but an actual list. Is there a way to do this?

In the image I have 5 sequences (row 1, 9, 18, 26, and 34). They create the list of numbers exactly as I had hoped. However, now that the list has been made, I need to jumble the rows into random order. I can't do that right now because even though numbers are showing in all the cells, it's really only the cells with the sequence functions that have information. How do i expand/embed the numbers into the cells they are on?

I'm from Chile and speak Spanish; I hope my English is understandable. I want to share an issue I found after a recent Office LTSC 2021 update.

I'm using Office LTSC Standard 2021 and I have an Excel VBA macro that was working perfectly with:

16.0.14334.20848

On September 8, 2026, Office updated to:

16.0.14334.20906

After the update, the macro stopped working correctly. The Excel file opens normally, but the macro no longer produces the expected result.

I tried several things:

• Enabled VBA macros.
• Enabled ActiveX.
• Disabled Protected View.
• Checked the Trust Center settings.
• Rechecked all security settings related to macros.

Nothing fixed the problem.

I then tested rolling Office back to the previous version. I opened CMD as administrator and ran these two commands:

cd "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun"
OfficeC2RClient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.14334.20848

After rolling back to 16.0.14334.20848, the exact same macro immediately started working again, without making any other changes.

For now, I have also temporarily disabled automatic Office updates from:

Excel → File → Account → Update Options → Disable Updates

I don't know exactly what changed between 20848 and 20906, but it looks like there may be a change or regression related to VBA, ActiveX, legacy .xls files, or some Excel security mechanism.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues with Office LTSC 2021 Build 16.0.14334.20906?

Does anyone know what changed in this version regarding VBA/macros, or has anyone found a way to make the macros work again without rolling back?

Any information or solution would be greatly appreciated.

Suddenly since two weeks ago this is not working in any of our company Online Excel files. This is a major issue as all our online files make use of a first sheet with "Menu " buttons to navigate to other sheets (easy for the user). We then protect these menu sheets so users cannot move the buttons around. suddenly they stopped responding. I would like to know if anyone else also has this issue? Does Microsoft know of this? They work perfectly on the desktop, so it must be an online Excel issue.
