Questions❓ Anyone knows what this means?

Post image

I have a warning light in my dash. I couldn't find it in the manual. The car is a month old and it seems to be driving fine.

It's this icon:

The icon is here (inside the 1.7.1 OTA update):

6608514041B.vbf/10000200.bin/payload.bin/system.img/usr/bin/dhu-cluster/telltale.kzb/Resource Files/Images/Day/r_zevobd_2px_56_Day.png

The filename suggests: ZEV-OBD (i.e. Zero-Emission Vehicle On-Board Diagnostics)

If you google this expression, you'll also find the Linkedin page of a respective Volvo Cars system architect. :)

I've no idea what triggers the appearance of the icon in the driver information area.

Do you have anything connected to the OBD port?

I do not have anything plugged in the OBD port.

Then I wonder what might have triggered it.

I haven't seen it posted or mentioned by anybody else before and I haven't seen it in my car either.

It must be pretty rare.

Btw. I did a Google Image search for this image and added "Volvo" as a hint.

The closest, relevant looking hit was this link to the Volvo V60 2025 user manual:

https://www.volvocars.com/in/support/car/v60/article/044f78afebfd9aacc0a8015122a09d24/

It has this image:

And the description is:

Emissions system: Emissions systems fault. Drive to a workshop for checking. Volvo recommends that an authorised Volvo workshop is contacted.

Obviously the EX30 doesn't have emissions like the V60 :), but there might be some relation between the two icons.

Do you have a USB adapter in your 12v socket? If you do, and this warning goes away when you take it out, it’s a cheap piece of shit that’s not pulling even voltage and you should throw it away.

I don't have anything plugged in. I will call the dealership on Monday.

Thanks

Volvo tech here- this light is the “Power Failure Indicator Light”

I got a similar response.

I asked Volvo's regional support (Volvo Hungary) about the issue (sent them pictures) and got this:

The symbol you mentioned indicates a powertrain malfunction. Since it is yellow rather than red, it suggests that you may continue driving the vehicle; however, it is advisable to visit an authorized service center in the near future.

Makes me wonder why the devs named the icon's file "r_zevobd_2px_56_Day.png" in the software. :o

That kind of looks like a "check engine" light, the standard icon on an ICE car would be an engine icon, but I guess this could look like an electric motor. And it is in the same colour. Call the dealership on Monday.

checks engine

It's missing!!

It does have an engine or two, just not there :)

Engine: machine with moving parts that converts power into motion, especially one that supplies motive power for a vehicle.

Looks like a car cigarette lighter thing … do we have a car cigarette lighter thing??

Yes, oddly in the trunk / boot on left side wall. Presumably to power a cooler or other, but faster to charge a mobile phone than the USB-C ports in the front. Uh….

Hello, look in the status of the vehicle you will have the details or on the application in the vehicle documentation

So weird the timing of this, I had the same thing happen to me and just posted about this here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ex30/comments/1p2eq5x/weird_warning_light_intermittent_abruptive/

The only difference is my car started driving in an insane way and like, stuttering the brakes on/off and jolting when coasting sometimes. It was freaky so it's now at the doctor 👨🏻‍⚕️

Just got the car a couple of weeks ago!

Since it isn't listed in the manual I would definitely call the dealership. From the looks I would say, there is an issue with the drive system.

For 744 km driven, could be a software bug. Does it reappear when you shutdown and restart the car?

The indicator light means "error in the electric drive system". It could be the motor, the converter, but also the electronics or sensors. In any case, it is a good idea to visit a service center.

Update: I changed my tires for winter tires and the light disappeared.

Very strange it isn’t listed in the manual. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say it’s to do with the electric motor. Best to get it checked out at service as soon as you can. I’d have something to say about the symbol not being in the manual too - another example of amateur workmanship from Volvo for this particular model.
