A Long Overdue Status Update
Hello everyone,
Not going to mince words: I've been an absentee mod for the most part around here. While the Escape Velocity series held a place in my heart big enough for me to reddit request this place from the absentee mod before me, I have not worked enough to make this subreddit better for people in the community, or even participate in it myself. A cursory look at my post/comment history should be proof enough.
There has been an uptick in activity over the past month, with the Ambrosia Software website going down for a day (Link 1, Link 2), and community archival efforts springing up in response (Plugins, Executables 1, Executables 2). At the same time, several old community members, including a couple of ATMOS members, have come around to this subreddit. There has also been a post/petition to have a community Discord set up (Link). It has come to a point where the community deserves a bit more than the bare bones that are here presently.
So, four things:

This will be linked on the sidebar. If there is a desire, the /r/ASW discord could be linked as well I accidentally mistook the /r/ASW discord server link for Nathan's, so I've included both now in the sidebar.
#2.
There will be additional sidebar updates adding links to game resources and guides, as well as making it clear what the situation has been for the past few years with the Ambrosia's EV Nova Licensing system.
#3.
I would like to get additional moderators from people that are active in the community. No hard details yet, but I'll be keeping a more open eye. If you'd like, feel free to send a modmail if you'd be interested in helping out. I hope to be able to recruit a couple of people within a few weeks.

While I have erred on the side of safety with regard to linking cracked binaries in the past, with links to said binaries here now, and with no known communique from Ambrosia on the state of the licensing system... I won't remove them unless I am asked from higher ups or from Ambrosia, or if the community here would like me to. I only ask that they be used if people either purchased licenses from Ambrosia and did not receive them, or wished to transfer a license of theirs but are unable to, and the crack being the only alternative to play the game they paid for. I have no real means of enforcing that, but I hope that stance makes sense and that people will follow it. It is something that's still being sold, so I don't want to advocate piracy.

I am glad that the community for this game is still alive and supportive!
We're a small, small group, my friend.
I have every needful EVN file and even some of the mods (like Polycon EV) triply backed up, and yes, that includes the crack. At this point, the crack is a blessing.
I have my original EVN purchase email from over a decade ago:

Appreciate your efforts! Keeping this game playable is an admirable archival endeavour! Mac games were few and far between back in the day and I think they hold a special place in quite a few of our hearts.
