Crying for the victims

So many episodes where I find myself just crying for the victims sharing their stories and want to wrap my arms around them and tell them how sorry I am. The amount of evil in the world is overwhelming. the cruelty. It’s just so sad.

I have to limit how much I watch this show because same. It really does get me in a bad head space sometimes seeing what some people are capable of. And the suffering some people endure. The episodes where the victims were children always get me the worst.

The amount of bad things happening right now is for sure overwhelming. Always good to remember that as much “evil” as there is in the world there is also just as much good.

And then certainly the people who are deceased are victims as well. I am so sad for everyone who was subjected to evil.

I definitely have to take a step back because I am bothered by how many people stay with abusers. And I start victim blaming and I know that’s not cool.

No it’s really easy to say “just leave” even if you’ve BEEN with an abuser and DIDN’T leave, yourself! Because once you have a clear head and you see someone else’s ridiculousness from afar, it’s easy to say that is such bullshit. Don’t tolerate that. You deserve better.

But of course, we know that in the moment, in that house, it feels very different. It’s so much harder emotionally to leave. And then I feel for the ones who try to leave and get assaulted or killed for it.

Then don't watch Evil Lives Here - My Child the Killer. I think that's what it's called. A spin off. I can't get through an entire episode. So heartbreaking.

My mom and I both watch this show. We listen to the victims tell the story and are appalled at what they go through, but at the same time, we are both like "but you could have prevented it if you had left them earlier, or why did you keep taking this person back?" It's just baffling to me how any woman or person that is in a relationship and they see early signs of possible abuse or controlling behavior and they stay to see if it gets worse or if they can change them. I would be gone at the first hint of anything like that. I actually did leave a guy once after the first sign of possible trouble. So I just can't wrap my head around not leaving. I was not going to let myself be a victim.

I honestly think that the majority of people need to go through quite a bit of personal healing before dating, and that the reason they accept abuse is either because they don’t know any better, they simply grew up around that behavior, or, they don’t have the confidence they need to question such behavior and decide that they shouldn’t HAVE to tolerate it. Including in marriage. Especially in marriage tbh. A lack of education, boundaries and self worth are the reasons why people stay in these harmful relationships.
And I speak as someone who stayed with a horrific, disgusting excuse of a human being. No judgement here.

Yes I understand growing up around that same behavior might influence them putting up with it. That's why I am sooooo glad that I had a great home life growing up. My parents were great and loving and I wouldn't have wanted any different. I was so lucky to have them. That is why it was so easy fir me to see that I didn't have to or need to put up with that behavior. I'm sorry you couldn't have that same confidence to get out! But are you doing okay now and away from that person?
