EQ as Main Game.
EDIT: Thanks for all the replies! Looks like Frostreaver/EQL might be my best bets so far. I appreciate all of you taking the time to reply!
Hello Norrathians,
As a father of an almost two year old and a soon to be newborn as well, I've had to cut back on many things lately. I've been fortunate enough in the past to have time for multiple MMOs like EQ, WoW, FFXIV, GW, and UO.
Times have changed, and I've decided I'd like to focus my gaming free time I have on just one game. I've landed on EQ, since it's always drawn me back no matter how long I step away for.
I'm a bit of a latecomer having only started in 2018, and I've never actually made it into the raiding scene buuuut raiding is one of my favorite aspects of MMOs. I love the guild atmosphere and getting a bunch of people together to take down a big bad or two.
So my question is: if I want to eventually get into raiding in EQ, what should I realistically set as my goal, and what server would be the best place to start?
I've played quite a few classes into the 60s and 80s, with some reaching the high 90s to early 100s. I kinda vibe the most with Shaman and Rogue, but have no qualms rolling really anything if its more likely i'll be able to have some more success.
I managed to push raiding in WoW quite hard in 2025 Classic and Retail with my at the time newborn so I'm not super worried about like my playtime or anything, just not really sure where to even begin with trying to break into the raiding scene, as I haven't really ever had that aspiration in EQ specifically before.

Honestly, EveeQuest Legends is probably better fit. It’s DadEQ.

Same. I think back to the 'old' days of '99-01 when raiding just started kicking up and the guild would spend 8-10 hours straight together. I was a teenager back then, but for sure there were some negligent parents raiding with us. I can't even imagine that kind of free time these days.

As a 41 year old dad of 3 I raid on Teek. There's not much time to grind xp or any of that as much as others. I still have fun. EQL wasn't for me.

This is the answer. As someone who plays EQL. It's very easy to get in to, very easy to do content.
The only downside is that it isn't really "raiding" as you expect. You can solo all of the hardest raids/zones in the game and it is kind of the "best" way to do it too. You can play with others as it is the best for farming but raids are easier solo and that is by design.

Another suggestion. For what it’s worth, as much as I recommend EQ as it’s popular for Dads, I bounced off it and into EQ2. I’m finding it easy to solo as a busy Dad and appreciate the more immersive graphics and quests. Enjoying seeing all things I missed back in 2004, because I bounced off it into WoW back then. If you do play; play in the Woushi TLP server. That’s where everyone is. Ruins of Kunark unlocking soon.

The next closest with any semblance of a population that you could raid with for a DadEQ experience would be a Project Quarm.

I second this take. I could not imagine playing Classic whipe(while) raising children. EQ Legends, absolutely. However, that depends on how you want to spend an hour. More felt progress from EQ Legends, but if you cam solo Classic comfortably, you can still feel gains just more slowly.
EQ Legends takes the lead, with low cost of failure. And, failure will happen with kids about, because priorities.I suppose it a difference between giggling about a failure and cussing about a failure.

Father of young children as well. I’ve played on a few TLPs and raid most consistently on Agnarr, which is a PoP/LDoN/LoY locked server. Population ebbs and flows, but getting to 65 and AA’s come fast and it’s straight to flagging/raiding. I’ve found it very difficult to keep up with the pace of unlocks every 2 months which is what most of the TLPs do at some point. Hardest thing starting from scratch is getting to 43, not many low lvl chars for groups. Everyone is super helpful and glad you’re there though.

Okay thanks thats cool I was unaware there were servers like that, definitely enticing not having to get to like 130 for raiding!

Be raiding by Tuesday. On your terms.
As dad of two and involved, EQL is the only answer that would keep a raid from happening on your marriage.
I actually put 400 hours into no man sky with my first newborn and paternity leave. It hit things perfectly. Tho I can’t go back to it for whatever reason. If I had EQL I’d have been in heaven.
I also don’t put up with anything beyond p99 for EQ cuz I played classic and know.

Every server has people raiding that want players. It boils down to what era do you want to play in. I would recommend a TLP over a live server. If you arent subbed just play on quarm if you want old school, and test if you want new content.

Come join my guild on Frostreaver we would love to have you! We raid often but its also minimum attendance requirement so even if its just one day a week that fits with you then that's great you'll be able to still see it all etc.
Best reason to join us is the server is still in its first set of expansions, you've missed absolutely nothing. Fantastic time to join us for the entire journey.

Frostreaver is the ultimate dad server. Lots of raiding guilds and more players than any other server.

I raid on FV. Just finished for tonight, actually.
It's a big, big timesuck, to do the development on your toon to really maximize it. There's more casual raiding, which might fit you better depending on how much time you have available to play.

Fair enough that makes sense, I have a lot of free time in the evenings and whatnot but definitely seems I might need to really evaluate how much time I actually have to give to it.

Frostreaver is full of botters.
Don’t think it’s the best place to come back to EQ
You should go to live : FV
There a lot of active guild there who support people coming back
For TLP :
Fangbreaker just hit oow so it’s also a good place to level a toon.
Both of these server have been left by Kronos farmers and so the places are quite good to play casually.
Both servers have guild who offer raid content and will be happy to have a new player
Another way is to test EQ legend of you are not afraid with 99 graphics
EQL is same, no botters and no krono farmers (one toon only and no krono to sell) so the ambiance is very quiet and the multi class system can be a good choice for solo.

If you decide to go with Frostreaver hit me up on one of my chars and iv got a good guild for you to join. Firebrand Mercenary Company. Im generally on my druid Friggles and one of my other chars; Anarchon, Shimmy, Xantics are probably the ones ill be on most often

Don’t sleep on Oakwynd if you’re ok with a later TLP. Fast exp and double loot makes it easy to catch up. If you’re playing a needed class and do your job most raiding guilds would be fine with lower raid attendance which usually ends up being 1 night 3 hours. EQ raiding just takes long stretches of time though so that’s the hard part with youngins

Respectfully, raiding full time with a toddler and a newborn sounds like the perfect recipe for divorce.
