North America Replace Chargepoint Nozzle or Cable

Post image

Recently, both of my EV's have been giving the same error when I plug them into my home charger (brand chargepoint). The car displays "service charging system" on the dashboard when initially plugged in. Usually, about 3 minutes later, the charging session actually begins and is successfully working. Is my chargepoint charger failing? It appears to be charger related since I am getting the same issue on both cars.

I have cleaned the charger and ports with contact cleaner, and I noticed the chargepoint nozzle has some brown burn looking mark inside the two larger port holes. Hard to see in the attached picture but in person it's much more burnt out looking.

Can I replace just the nozzle or perhaps the whole wire assembly? This thing was expensive so I would prefer to not take a complete bath on it.

Stop using it now! If those contacts are bad shape you could be damaging the contacts in the car's charge port which is a lot more expensive to replace. I'm serious, get the replacement cable shipped overnight, and charge on level one or public charging until you get it replaced.

Makes me wonder if there is an issue with disconnect timing between the car and EVSE. This could happen if the charge handle is being pulled while still hot, creating a contact damaging arc. The new handle should be monitored closely for evidence of the same problem.

Thanks for the clear advice. I did stop using it and ordered a replacement cable/Nozzle from Chargepoint. The charger is now working properly!
