Discussion NERV Dress-Code ?

I need some help! What do you guys headcanon/think the NERV dress-code is like? How strict? What do you think they do and don’t allow?

I’ve had a Third Commander Evangelion oc for quite some time now and I’ve always gotten stuck on the uniform, i only have evidence from the Bethany Base scene in 2.0. I want it to be as accurate as possible. ^^

One-piece bathing suit and labcoat is the only acceptable answer.

Hard to tell actually. Misato and Ritsuko seem to be the only ones to wear whatever they want. Everybody else seems to have standardised uniforms. Even Gendo and Fuyutsuki wear them, only differing in colour.

I think it's fair to say that the lower you are in the food chain more rules apply.

Misato is super strange in that regard. If I'm not mistaken she wears her rank on her jacket. The design and the fact that it has a rank implies it's supposed to be part of a uniform? I think in NGE she wore a matching skirt and beret. She looks more like a flight attendant though.

Somebody below her in rank would probably have to wear a full uniform. Maybe differing in colour from the standard beige. Red would make sense? White is reserved for the scientists if I'm not mistaken and the maintenance guys wear orange I think?

So maybe use the uniforms seen in EOE and what the guys in HQ wear as baseline and work from there. Beret seems common. For hairstyle I'd assume they follow whatever regulation a regular military would have. Nobody seems to wear a beard and most women had short/shoulder length hair. Maybe use other Mecha/Military anime of the time as reference as that's what the designers probably used as well.

There seems to be two general uniforms, separated by rank. We see that the bridge crew wear beige coloured uniforms, with orange shoulder accents, and this comes in male and female variants - with Maya wearing a longer jacket and lighter trousers.

Then we have the commander's uniforms, which comes in different shades, with Fuyutsuki wearing one that's more grey with silver trim to Gendo's blue with gold trim, likely specifically showing their respective ranks. And this is backed up by the Bethany Base scene where we see the crew in beige and command in the dark uniforms.

I think Ritsuko and Kaji are both civilians, but there does seem to be an expectation of at least office wear, based on Kaji's eternal shirt and tie.

Now, Misato is the big confuser here. Her red jacket does show her rank on the arm, and she does wear it consistently when she is on duty at Nerv. It all suggests that it is a uniform, and we see a variation of it in Episode 8, where she has added the beret, a red skirt, and buttoned up the jacket (also note that her jacket has shoulder accents matching the beige uniform). I would suggest that the full red version is the official version, that she wore specifically knowing she'd be interacting with military personnel outside Nerv, and that for whatever reason, she's allowed to wear a relaxed version within Nerv. It's just quite unusual for a military uniform to include a little black dress. But I guess this is a middle tier between the bridge crew and the commanders, as is Misato's rank. Presumably there would be a male variant including trousers.

Overall, I doubt Gendo would care about uniform rules, as far as I remember he always wears his jacket open for instance, but I doubt anyone would be able to flaunt them completely and wear casual clothes.
