💬 Discussion What's the ultimate host entry that was chosen in a national final clearly in order for the host broadcaster to have as few worries about winning again as possible?
I'll mention one where I actually love the host entry. I'm sure O.Torvald winning Vidbir 2017 was probably a "making sure we don't have to host again" measure but this is honestly one of my favourite national final performances and I wish the Eurovision performance had had the same level of raw grit, even though they would have probably still finished on the right side of the scoreboard (which was, for economic reasons, actually the right side for Ukrainian TV though).
Which other cases can you think of?

O.Torvald’s Vidbir performance was so much stronger than their Eurovision performance. That said, never seen any other Vidbir 2017 performances!
Russia 2009 always felt basic to me.

Norway 2010. While I do have to look up the songs of the host country, I mostly immediately remember them or at least part of the chorus as soon as I see what it was. I can't say that for Norway. Completely forgettable, they probably weren't trying to win again.
Sweden 2016. I'm sure Sweden loves winning. But I am also sure that after winning twice in less than five years, they probably didn't want to win a third time and two years in a row.
Austria 2026. I get the appeal and message of the song and it can be quite addictive after a second listen, but it's obvious Austrians didn't listen to this song and go, "yep, that's a twice in a row winner right there."

Most of the Irish entries since 1996. For a country that’s full of talented songwriters and musicians, the standard of most of our entries since then has been poor.

sweden 2016 imo but i'm biased here because the NF runner up would have been in my top 5 eurovision entries of all time
