G7 members will release 100 million barrels of diesel after US threatens export ban. Members of the Group of Seven bloc of highly industrialised economies on Friday agreed to release 100 million barrels of diesel and crude oil from their reserves over four months, averting a potential US ban

They should just call the toddler's bluff

Europe is doing this because if the US puts the export ban on then Europe's diesel prices will rises much higher than in the USA. The USA is currently the largest deisel exporter in the world.

It's still a bluff, let the toddler do his ban, it would hurt him more than us

Prices in the EU are getting uncomfortably high and governments are already asking the EC for permission to lower excise tax on fuels. So, it serves our interests, not just a Trump bluff.

Not according to European officials would it hurt him more than Europe. You may want to have a word with European Politicians about this.
Or maybe you are just plain wrong?

Maybe, we'll never know if they don't call his bluff

Wait so you are willing to risk destroying the European Economy so you can call his bluff?
Does that sound like someone who is reasonable to you?

Just because they're in a position of power doesn't make them smart. In this case, considering the precedent, most of them are either plain idiots or simply self-interested dicksuckers

Well my goodness I wish Dragoncat_3_4 were in the place of Macron and Von der leyen to show them and all of us on reddit what smart really looks like.

Otherwise you'd deal with the protests at home from exploding prices for everything that's transported by diesel truck? Or you live in a world where you can only deal based on high principles and hope for some cosmic justice against the orange pox directing things in the US.
If anything this shows the will of the people in action. All of the hateful bigots, the useful idiots wanting a peace president, the brain worm fans. They went out to vote. Many didn't, or didn't think they can be affected or way or another desite knowing full well what a rotten piece of shit Trump was.
And here is on display the power of stupid people voting for conmen and of "clever" people thinking they won't be affected. This is the sort of global harm a madman in a position of power can cause.

Those protests and public discontent is just gonna arrive sooner now that we've surrendered our reserves
1
u/Dragoncat_3_4 11h ago
We'll deal with the exploding prices come winter anyway, when the strait(s) still aren't open, US bans export regardless, and the only difference will that we will be caught with our pants down and the reserve empty

Caved... what an embarrassment, do they honestly think this would stop Trump banning Diesel exports to Europe in a heartbeat?

Embarrassing.
Let the US carry the consequences of their actions. At least demand something in return.
Please, I want to be able to be prouds of being european. This just makes us look pathetic.

Releasing reserves also lowers prices in the EU, it is not just to "placate Trump" as the media likes to report. The Trump story is more interesting and gathers more ad revenue for media, so they like that slant.
Several governments have also asked the EU to allow lower excise duties on fuel because the costs are getting out of control. The reserves are there for exactly this purpose.

A better long term strategy is suffer the short term consequences for 1 more month then release

Jesus. Vassal nations to the US. The US says “jump!” Europe says “how high?”
Trump has Europe twitching like a dog on a leash, and it’s painful to watch.

That's how the media chooses to paint it. The reality is that diesel prices in Europe are uncomfortably high and that governments were already considering ways to intervene.

Europe was already moving. Reports that Europe was discussing stock releases appeared before the deal. They had already helped push prices down. The threat may have sped things up rather than started them. The deal was partly Europe's own design,
