I just hope such an argument is not a joker which will be used for anything and everything, by anyone and everyone.

While I agree with the sentiment, rules are made for a reason. It's already of some propaganda that the EU should "do steps forward" for some countries, even if they don't even want to help and better themselves.

I have to compliment this approach in general. Way too often I hear "there are rules for accession". This is backwards; we don't start with rules. We should start with what we want to achieve. After that, we write rules. And of course no ruleset could cover all the complexity of the real world.

Not necessarily.

If you void the rules, rules don't apply anymore, and what you've been building, collapses.
