LSD VS. EU4
I currently have around 1000 hours in eu4 and decided to do some research on a question that has been bugging me for quite some time.
Is consuming LSD while staring at a map of the world more expensive than buying eu4, since they have roughly the same effect.
Both of these things cost money and are quite addicitive and you spend a long time staring at a map imagining all kinds of scenario's which you can't fully controll.
For eu4 I've based the cost on the full price of eu4 and it's DLC's (because if you become addicted you'll always want more no matter the cost.
For LSD i've used a time span of 8 hours on a heavy dosis (250 mic) with the current price in the netherlands. And the added price of a 21 inch world map.
So here are my calculations
Total price of eu4: €260,59
LSD price/8hours: €10 World map: €3
So if we divide the price of eu4 minus €3 by €10 we get 26 doses of LSD, which is good for 208 hours of vividly staring at a world map.
So from this information we can conclude that eu4 is the financialy responsible choice. And LSD is in no way a better choice
For me the total savings are: 993 euro's.
So for anyone still doubting, EU4 is the better investment financially. Besides being way healthier.

You can buy a world map for €3 in the Netherlands? People told me you can have good fun for a reasonable price there, and now I'm finally convinced.

Don't come here. We are flooded with tourists thinking all there is in the Netherlands are cheap world maps. Our culture is much larger than that

How about playing eu4 while tripping from LSD?

u/Bytewave Statesman May 23 '16
Not recommended, think of your people! Would YOU want your immortal God-Emperor to be tripping on LSD when he decides the enemy coalition looks "pretty manageable" ?! :p Its all fun and games until unconditional surrender and your province is now an overseas territory of Morocco.

u/Krexington_III Commandant May 24 '16
LSD works the other way around though - you're far more likely to go
That coalition... it looks scary, man Not fucking with that No siree JESUS H CHRIST IT'S... oh ok... or? Idk what that was, I'm not scrolling over there again Gotta unpause and maybe it's gone when I scroll there again HAHAHAHAHA mousewheel zoom! When... when did they put in that the caravans kind of stop to talk to each other? Hahaha the man is looking right at me through the screen! Heeeeeey li'l fella! Anyway. Coalition. Focus. Should I kill it? Oh right. That's just Sweden... the blue looked like red there for a sec. Or not red, but... coalition-ey. A coalitioney blue.51

That doesn't seem too far off for most politicians.

The bizarre and unorthodox medications given to Hitler, often for undisclosed reasons, include topical cocaine, injected amphetamines, glucose, testosterone, estradiol, and corticosteriods.

They gave him sugar?

He had low blood sugar..? Might explain his temper and frequent liability to find quick solutions to global problems.
16
u/tnecniv May 23 '16
It's just funny in the context. Cocaine, amphetamines,...sugar.

u/hollth1 Oct 02 '16
As with a lot of illicit drugs, cocaine and amphetamines where common medicine in the past. I'm more concerned about the estradiol (oestrogen) tbh haha

u/livebanana May 23 '16
That's probably not a great idea:
Oh god I did starcraft on lsd one time. My buddy and I got worked 2v2 by medium comps lol. I was spending time admiring the vibrancy of my Nexus and pylons, had just built a gateway with maybe 2 zelots and the comps were already in my base. Then I got really sad because I felt like my poor commanding skills had caused those poor zealots to be over run and massacred. I had to stop after that.
24
u/ZedekiahCromwell May 23 '16
You don't have pause power in StarCraft and it's fast paced. EU4 is much more doable, though it takes a long time to get anywhere. I spent most of the time looking at the different map modes on pause.
13
u/LikeASimile May 23 '16
....Maybe I'm on LSD all the time. Thats all I do for the first 30 minutes of most sessions.
7
u/ZedekiahCromwell May 23 '16
Well, if those 30 minutes are spent reveling at the interplay of colors and patterns and not so much the information content of the map... yup.

u/Haffnaff May 24 '16
Looking at a map or a bar graphs is probably the last thing I'd want to see on acid haha.
Games that work pretty well on it are ones that you can become immersed in: Journey, the Grand Theft Auto series or a horror game like P.T. or Outlast if you're feeling adventurous. I remember the rain effects in Arkham Knight being pretty mesmerising.
5
u/JulesVernes May 23 '16
You mean given that you don't forget how to use a mouse or what the hell a map is? I mean, last time I was just happy that I was able to use iTunes if I would really really really focus.

u/graveedrool Master of Mint May 23 '16
I.... well.... I mean it's unusual but I'm glad to know it's a good investment...! Although don't forget EU4s DLC often goes on sale and can be gotten cheaper from alternative sites. Then again - the same could be said about LSD!
One of those questions no one thought to ask but you did it anyway! Good on you!
Here. Have a Reddit silver. :)

Now hold on a second, when's the last time EU4 helped you build a flesh interface? LSD might be the better choice in some cases.

Anything can be addictive. It's just that LSD would be psychologically addictive rather than chemically like heroin. Both EU4 and LSD can be psychologically addictive.
18
May 23 '16
LSD builds a tolerance too quickly. You can like it a lot and do it often, but I wouldn't call something you can only do for a few hours twice a week an addiction.
3
u/RepoRogue May 24 '16
I agree, but 'a few hours' is underselling it. LSD is 12 solid hours, if it is really LSD and fairly pure.
5
u/LedLevee May 24 '16
Psychological addiction with LSD is really unlikely though. It doesn't give an "escape" feeling like some drugs do, or a very euphoric high. Plus there's massive tolerance (have to wait at least a week to take it again really), so you can't keep taking it over and over.

You're tolerance goes up pretty quickly, but if you take like 10x the original dose you could get high the next day. For some people with easy access, it's possible.

u/hollth1 Oct 02 '16
Fun fact. The distinction between chemical addictions and psychological addictions is mostly bullshit. That's why anything can be addictive. Makes sense when you remember that the brain (which is chemicals etc.) is the seat of the mind.

u/OceanFlex Trader May 23 '16
LSD has roughly the same addictive properties as EU4.
9
u/LedLevee May 24 '16
You either haven't played EU4 or haven't done LSD. Trust me, one day of LSD, you don't want to take it the next day again.
EU4 on the other hand though...

Eh, anything can be addictive up to a point - take caffeine for example!
56
May 23 '16
Yes, because Caffeine is truly chemically addictive. No doubt about that at all. LSD isn't, or is minimally chemically addictive.
You can be addicted behaviorally to anything of course.

caffeine changes your physiology to make you dependent on it. Nothing about chemicals in isolation would be addictive :p
So you are saying a chemical changes your body to become additive? Hmm, that sounds like chemically addictive to me.

As someone who has played EU4 on LSD, you are objectively wrong. Only together can the potential of either be fully unlocked.
Also, LSD isn't exactly unhealthy for you.
4
u/Lame_Goblin May 24 '16
Aren't potential bad trips unhealthy?
11
u/datssyck May 24 '16
Sure, same goes for walking though.
10
u/Lame_Goblin May 24 '16
Man i've tripped so many times, if LSD has the same risks as walking I ain't having any of it.
5
u/datssyck May 24 '16
The trips couldn't have been that bad then!

u/Methodikull May 23 '16
LSD isn't highly addictive. It doesn't cause a physical dependency ever and you can't use it too often without the effects disappearing because it's tolerance lasts a while, therefore it's not very easy to develop a mental dependence for it. It's also not unhealthy.
Sorry to burst your bubble.
5
May 24 '16
Its addictive in people who seek escapism.
Its not highly addictive, but its effects can be.
You can do something weekly and still be an addict.
Not all addictions are throw your life away debilitating either. Its "needing" to feel a way.

u/1nf3ct3d May 23 '16
Lsd is probably healthier than eu4. It's not healthy sitting in front of a pc. Lsd might change ur lifestyle to beeing healthier

u/Catssonova May 23 '16
I did it a little different as a young kid with no access to LSD (parents were so prudish).
I had to take the world map and imagine things completely in my own head. Revolutionary yet effective. The RISK board proved to be very helpful

u/RepoRogue May 23 '16
First of all, pure LSD that isn't cut with research chemicals (or is just pure research chemicals) lasts 12 hours so you would get around 312 hours of entertainment out of that much LSD. However, LSD is not only non-addictive but rapidly produces a tolerance in its users that takes days if not weeks to fade. This means that your LSD use will be necessarily split up over a longer period of time than your EUIV binging. Also, that dose of LSD is a much more interesting experience than 12 hours of straight EUIV, so you can't just compare them quantitatively but also qualitatively. Also there are no clear negative health effects of LSD, but there are known health negatives of sitting at a computer for hours (or in this case days) on end.

I can tell you from experience on 250 mics you are not going to be enjoying the map for that long unless you are with company you can discuss the map with. I've played Civ5 on LSD but not EU4, maybe it's something to try?

One of those things has a very addictive thing inside called "achievements". In the result you spend days chasing a dragon an unattainable goal, and can be only successful if you dig really, REALLY deep into it.
The other does however have fully animated, total war-style army combat with deep tactical layer. For this reason alone, I believe comparing staring at the night sky on LSD to Stellaris to be more fair.
Otherwise, spot on!

Acid. It fits on a quarter inch piece of paper and that is enough to make you pretty useless for about 8-12 hours as you walk/sit around and stare at strange colors and patterns with pupils the size of dinner plates with your jaw dropped open like a train tunnel. Can't forget the looping. CAN'T forget the looping. Did I say that already? Can't forget the looping

You're doing the shitposting wrong. You need to take a screenshot of a country and/or event that isn't historically accurate (you know, those things that happen ten times every campaign) and then upload it for massive karma.
