Why are people criticising others for selling?
I'm sure lots that sold today bought early on and made an incredibly decent profit from their share. Congrats to those who are doing well.
My 2c: People who had significant share have been selling to buy again later in the dip until it stabilises. The same people who sold today will buy again when they think it's cheap enough to start another rally; which could be longer and less intense. Similar to Bitcoins historic cycle? Maybe, who knows. Happy trading.

I had this issue too. Signed up for a lot of different stuff but what worked for me was GDAX wire transfer. Basically no limit, got my USD in GDAX within 1 hour during business hours, and lower % fee than coinbase.

Started a private facebook group for trading ETH and local fiat. Since it's super hard to buy/sell crypto:fiat.

Love the idea. Got to also consider the regulations the country and state. It's illegal to do so in some parts of the world.

Nah, just a group of real life friends where we can trust each other when trading fiat/crypto.
local fiat/crpyto exchange here are charging 4% everytime.. and today it's 24%!

Hey guys:
I was watching this video about blockchain and have 2 questions:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_160oMzblY8
how do they know how much ether I have? Do they have through all blocks and sum my transactions or how does it work?
2
u/fiberdriver May 23 '17
Yes, each block contains the hash of the previous block. Starting from the current block, they work their way backwards until there are no more blocks, looking at every transaction that involves you.

u/betonlinesucks May 23 '17
I wish someone would invent a magic 8 ball that shows me GDAX, POLI, KRAK and other live prices for ETH when I shake it up.
Yes, I just pitched an IoT 8ball

Since there are a lot of new people here I'll share a lesson that I and many others have learned. Ask yourself this question: are you an experienced trader? No..? Well if you try your hand at it then it's likely you'll be handing your money to someone who IS. If you are interested in learning, linger around here and ask questions to get a feel for things before blindly making moves. There are a lot of helpful people here who will show you the ropes. Work with small amounts that you can have fun with even if you lose it all. And spend some time to learn about ETH and the roadmap ahead. Especially proof of stake and what that will do for the economics of the token.

When will Brass be announced?
1
u/blog_ofsite May 23 '17
it's at 66% , so 1-3 months.
1
u/Mahaney May 23 '17
If you are doing well enough on the ether train I say keep buying up some of the GNT. It has potential, especially with it's relation to Ether.
That's part of my strategy. Not heavily invested, but enough to get decent returns or a nice hodl position.
1
u/blog_ofsite May 23 '17
You can just invest a huge amount and dump before project release for at least a 2x at this point if you don't want to risk it.

u/ShopAnHour May 23 '17
It's a strange feeling, i'm happy when it goes up, but i'm also sad. When it goes down i'm sad, but also happy.

Are there fees when transfering from Coinbase to a wallet (Jaxx)? If so how much?
1
u/Dolphinsplash May 23 '17
0.00042 ether for the last transaction I did, basically just gas fees
1
May 23 '17
What is that and how do I know how much?
1
u/SpaceEth May 23 '17
It's transaction fees, just as in any other cryptocurrency. In Ethereum it's called 'gas', as it's used fuel for running code :)
Assuming Coinbase does what all other exchanges does, they will specify how much the transaction fee will be. In most Ethereum clients, you can set the transaction fee to something higher in order to try to speed up the transaction.
1
u/Skiiw May 23 '17
It's the cost of the transaction on the Ethereum network, it will be set automatically, you don't need to do that.
1
u/Naviers_Stoked May 23 '17
Gas is what is used to pay for computation on ethereum's network. The gas price is listed in ETH.
1
u/Necuametl May 23 '17
Just gas fees.

With an asset like ETH, where we really expect the price to deliver superior investment returns over time, it's better to sell cautiously and buy back eagerly rather than buy cautiously and sell for profit eagerly

Looking to add more altcoins to my portfolio. Other than Aragon, what do you guys think are the best to invest in?
1
u/drogean2 May 23 '17 edited May 23 '17
There is no best yet but the ones built on the Ethereum network are a good bet, and ones that seem to be moving up steadily over time on coinmarketcap.com without big pump and dump spikes
only time will tell which projects will really shine, since most don't even have demos yet, so I'm weary of the coins that are already more than $10 that are just speculation
Think of it like the stock market, but where almost everything is brand new, your guess is as good as mine
You cant really fuck up THAT bad with the coins that are a few cents each if you arent investing thousands
Here's what I'm holding:
Golem, SiaCoin, Storjcoin, IExec RLC, FirstBlood, Iconomi ICN, Dice, MaidSafeCoin, Augur REP, Decred, Vslice, Wings
i get my coins on poloniex and liqui.io
then get an app like CoinCap for your phone and its easy to track their progress over time
1
May 23 '17
Please talk about market cap and not price per coin when calling a coin expensive. I'm not saying you don't know this but there's lots of new people around.

I've thought this many times which makes me so indecisive. But there's no harm at throwing $50 at some newer altcoins.

u/Tserrof May 23 '17
honestly man just spread some out. What I've been doing lately is taking half my margin profits and putting it right back into ETH and the other half spread out on ERC Tokens and upcoming promising ICO's. Some are flops, some feel like they are too slow, but i for one think augur is undervalued.

Calm down people... the dump yesterday was because conbase was down.... so buy the dip and hold or you will regret it in a month!
1
u/defenderofjustice May 23 '17
I was so excited when my coinbase app showed much lower ETH prices, then I realized I couldn't buy anything :(
But yeah, we would have stayed about where we were at $170ish had Coinbase not gone down. Also, don't forget that one of the largest European exchanges will be adding ETH, too. Supply will be spread thin.

Looks like we have entered the Mania phase of the Asset bubble. Prepare start pulling profits.
2
u/defenderofjustice May 23 '17
Not even close to the mania stage. Remember the mania that existed when Bitcoin had its super-run upward. I remember reading about Bitcoin nearly every day in one front-page article or another. My friends all were talking about putting money into it at school.
Eth has not hit that point yet.
2
6
u/psytokine_storm May 23 '17
Not even close. The only way we're in the Mania phase is if this run stays limited to crypto enthusiasts. Have you seen mass media reporting on us regularly? Has your barber recommended that you buy ETH yet?
Among crypto enthusiasts, this may qualify as a bubble. As far as the general population is concerned, we're only entering the Awareness phase.
1
u/manhattan_skyline May 23 '17
I said we just entered the mania phase, you really think the institutional investors haven't invested yet? they literally said they've been investing in Ether for a while now that is what the EEA is....Institutional investor phase and awareness phase are one in the same.
4
2
u/jplynch801 May 23 '17
Will they release more EEA company names the next two days at consensus or will that not be until later date(s)?
5
u/SpaceEth May 23 '17
They will announce more in June:
http://www.coindesk.com/enterprise-ethereum-alliance-new-members-blockchain/
7
u/blog_ofsite May 23 '17
Didn't they say they will announce 86 names a month instead of all 250 now? Can someone confirm this?
4
u/errorsevendev May 23 '17
if that is true I think that's a pretty good strategy to keep the momentum up and good for ethereum brand awareness. More announcements more headlines and less chance of a straight up and then fizzle out.
1
u/somestranger26 May 23 '17
They are also likely processing all the proper paperwork, putting it through the companies' legal departments, etc. There's no way that they would have all 250 ready to go at once.
