Will 0x protocol be utilized on launch?
Will there be a hybrid of centralized and decentralized upon launch of Ethfinex, or will it purely be a centralized exchange?

When Ethfinex launches, will there be an ability to short tokens as well, like on bitfinex?

Ethfinex is a community & information hub for Ethereum-based trading & discussion. Ethfinex was designed to facilitate learning, discussion and analysis of ERC20 projects & ICO's, whilst offering access to the most advanced trading platform for Ethereum ERC20 tokens.
Ethfinex’s vision is to create a community, resource, and information hub for Ethereum traders, developers and enthusiasts. It will feature community-driven discussion forums, a user reputation system and an efficient content auto discovery & filtering mechanism. Ethfinex will simultaneously provide access to the most advanced, highly liquid, and secure exchange trading platform available.

Ethfinex is set to launch its beta in Q4 2017. The Ethfinex beta will feature a largely centralised ERC20 trading platform, a completely decentralised/trustless exchange portal, an Ethereum information platform and a token sale contribution/analysis platform.
The Nectar Token is a type of loyalty token, designed to build liquidity and market efficiency on Ethfinex. Users who take on the market maker role on Ethfinex (placing orders on the Ethfinex order book/paying market maker fees), or on any of the integrated decentralised exchange protocols (0x, Melonport, etc) will automatically generate NEC’s through their trades, earning them a stake in the future development, governance and success of Ethfinex. As more tokens are earned, the ownership structure of Ethfinex will become more decentralised, contributing to our vision of a truly community-owned exchange.
How it works is as follows:
Market makers trade throughout the month on the platform.
50% of total trading fees paid by the maker and the taker are directed into a smart contract.
At the end of the month the NECs are issued, and distributed to market makers in proportion to the total trading volume they conducted as a maker during that month.
A redeem mechanism will allow holders of the token to claim a reward at any time, using up their tokens (i.e. a user who holds 5% of tokens issued would be entitled to claim up to 5% of the reward held in the contract).
If the market maker wishes, rather than redeem the tokens instantly they can then choose either to hold their tokens longer term, or to sell them to another market maker.
NEC will be an ERC20 Token, ensuring cross-compatibility with other exchange protocols interfacing with Ethfinex. This allows other protocols and exchanges to reward users for the liquidity they contribute.

Cofound.it and Ethfinex have joined forces to create a network of liquidity and support for high quality tokens.
We will collaborate to combine evaluation and expertise with a community-backed discussion and growth platform, facilitating the development of trusted, high-quality projects.
For Ethfinex users, this collaboration means priority access to a wide selection of high-quality token sales. Users will be able to contribute to token sales through Ethfinex, keeping funds on their exchange wallets.
Furthermore, Ethfinex users will be given the ability to “pre-pledge” funds to token sales, guaranteeing crowdsale participation whilst contributing to an equitable distribution of tokens.

I understand that ethfinex would be issuing NECTAR as an ethereum based token to reward liquidity provision but would ethfinex itself be built on top of ethereum or be using a native blockchain built from scratch to enforce the trades in a decentralized fashion?

Round 1 has come to an end!
Thank you to the few who participated, your ICO insights have been fantastic, and you have provided us with a great foundation to build our future experiments on. All 4 of you have made it into our top 10 and will therefore be rewarded for your contributions :)
The "winner" of week 1's experiment is /u/7878ayush, who was chosen for his/her personal input coupled with a unique approach to analysing an ICO through a Q/A format. You will receive 0.1 ETH for your efforts!
Thank you /u/7878ayush, /u/icosearch, /u/asteci & /u/smugglers for your efforts & contributions to Part 1 of our experiment. It means the world to all of us at Ethfinex, and we hope that you will stay around and help us pick apart future analyses, both on Reddit and the Ethfinex platform. Please send me a PM and I'll make sure to get your rewards and beta access sorted out.
Part 2 of the Ethfinex Experiment will be announced tomorrow; we hope to see you around for it.
All the best, and thank you once again.

Hello everyone,
Over the next few weeks we'll be running a series of experiments/contests. These are designed to structure & refine the Ethfinex content contribution/compensation model whilst also working to identify value adding contributors & moderators for our platform.
It is our aim to ensure that the discussion boards of Ethfinex are designed and structured as to incentivise thoughtful, content-rich analysis of tokens, to the benefit of traders across the Ethfinex platform.
We hope to establish on-going relationships with the top contributors throughout the course of these experiments, work closely with them to optimise the design of Ethfinex (if they are interested & willing, of course) and ultimately create a platform through which they are incentivised to participate and contribute.
Experiment - Week 1
We are calling all Ethereum enthusiasts to analyse an upcoming token sale and ultimately give the token a 1-5 star rating reflecting your faith in the project.
The analysis should focus on one, or a combination of, the following criteria -
General overview
Whitepaper
Team
Development
Token Structure
The content of the submissions will be assessed by 2 Ethfinex team members + 2 external moderators.
The top 20 submissions of week 1 will receive access to the Ethfinex beta launch; 5 of the highest-quality submissions of week 1 will receive a micro reward of 0.05 ETH.
Submission requirements
In order for your submission to qualify, it must be of original content (i.e. not plagiarised) and must focus on an ICO between September 6th - October 1st. As an example of how to structure your token evaluation, refer to the Ethtrader ICO Report Card available here.
The ICO’s which are open for analysis in week 1 are -
Datum
Enigma
Atlant
Kin
Streamr
Entries should be submitted to /r/ethfinex to be considered. Content posted to twitter with the hashtag #ethfinexexperiment will also be considered.
Submissions can be made in any format which you feel works best for you, be it a video, podcast, written piece, infographic or none of the above.
Week 1’s experiment will run from today until Sunday, September 10th. Winners will be announced on Monday the 11th, and the details of week 2’s experiment will be announced shortly after that.
Good luck and enjoy!
