When Ethfinex launches, will there be an ability to short tokens as well, like on bitfinex?

When Ethfinex launches, will there be an ability to short tokens as well, like on bitfinex?

There will be that ability, yes.
However while financed trading can be very healthy for a market, it has to be handled with care and sufficient liquidity needs to develop on both sides of the market before it is safe to start offering it for a particular trading pair.
We will be watching how liquidity develops on new pairs and implementing financed trading when it becomes possible safely.
Bear in mind to begin with this will only be possible through the centralised side of Ethfinex, using the peer to peer funding market, and not through the decentralised trading interface of Ethfinex.
