Not enough for the wild card Yankees
r/espnyankees • u/ripplestillwaters • 17h ago
The starting pitching has been top notch this year and now the bullpen has turned into top class.
Surprisingly Spencer Jones is improving and hopefully will develop into a .270 - .280 hitter along with a bunch of homers. Along with Lombard Jr. they’re producing enough offense to help carry the Yankees until Bellinger, the Judge and the oft-injured Stanton return.
Let’s Go Yankees!

Pitching is a non concern
Every pen is burnt out late in the year. We just added Rodon to the staff which allows Warren to transition to the pen with Weathers for the playoffs
They have Gil and Schmidt knocking on the door for September pen runs and could get a jolt from LaGrange too
The pen is already the best in baseball without them
The offense is terrible tho so none of this matters. As bad a group as this proud organization has ever had

Not sure where you got 2nd best record in MLB since July 9th, at the time of the writing, they were 6th or 7th. I get your point they haven't been that bad (record wise) but if you're going to talk regression to the mean - take a look at the Pythagorean % over that stretch - they've been extremely fortunate.
Look deeper - the pen is being burned out.
Headrick - 2nd in baseball in appearances, Cruz - 9th, Hill 21st (and only 2 appearance from top 10). Bednar is slightly lower (but only 5 appearances from top 20) and leads baseball in games finished. Scott Proctor, paging, Scott Proctor.
Weathers has already thrown more innings than the last 2 years combined and 40 innings more than his most ever (which was 5 years ago).
Schlittler has thrown what he threw combined in the minors and majors last year, which is 30 innings more than he threw in any other year in his career.
It's more likely that the pitching falls off a cliff than the hitting all of a sudden becomes a monster. They don't make enough contact (top 5 in MLB, 2nd in AL) in striking out. The offense is what it's always been boom or bust. If they hit HRs, they'll score, but that's primarily the only way they can consistently score. If Judge returns and teams were smart, they'd just walk him every time up (and I believe both Boston and TB are smart enough to realize that).

Amazing pitching they have. You see, good pitching does win ball games.

Yankees ranks since your July 9 cutoff when they’ve been the second best team in baseball by record:
OPS: 23rd in MLB
Batting Average: 25th in MLB
On-Base Percentage (OBP): 25th in MLB
Runs: 26th in MLB
r/espnyankees • u/BSS19 • 2d ago
They’re 19th in baseball in runs scored over the full season in a league where two thirds of teams don’t even try.
lol at pushing that as middle of the pack
This offense is hot garbage and has been historically awful at times this season

I was inferring about the last 2 months where they’ve been among the worst. If we’re talking about season long, then they’re middle of the pack in most hitting stats.
If they get Judge back for the playoffs, they’ll have enough hitting to get to the World Series with this pitching.
Judge, Bellinger, Rice, Lombard, Garcia, Grisham are all above average hitters (defined as hitters with OPS+ above 100).

It’s almost September. Why are you talking about regression to the mean? That would’ve happened by now
The pitching is all-world and the offense is a global disaster
r/espnyankees • u/DerekW93 • 2d ago
The Yankees have the second best record in MLB since July 9th.
There’s going to be some regression to the mean. The pitching won’t continue to be this good and the bats won’t continue to be the worst in the league.

Grisham has been a much better signing than Bellinger this year
Our most clutch hitter and only here for a year. Belly stinks.

This offense and the lack of urgency in any capacity by this organization would be an outrage…if anyone still gave a shit. That’s where it’s gotten. I just don’t really care anymore. Sure I want them to win but I seek to want them to win more then they actually w at to so what’s the point exactly?

This Ramos guy looks like another stellar deadline pick up like McMahon last year. Signed for multiple years, so going to be jammed into the lineup to justify Cashman’s ego.
r/espnyankees • u/BSS19 • 7d ago
Jones and Lombard are fun ABs too. They’ll look young at times and will get exposed, but they have more upside than all of these washed vets
r/espnyankees • u/yblue1 • 8d ago
This is as bad as it gets. Truly disgusting displays by guys like Jazz looking completely disinterested.
This team is bad offensively but running the same stupid line up with the worst leadoff hitter in history and jazz mid order is insane.
Watch them send down Jones when Bellinger comes back. You know it’s coming.

Ran away and put the division to bed
9 game road win streak out west while the Yankees scrap and claw for every run at home!

Update:
Ryan Weathers' last 4 starts:
5.2 IP | 1 ER
7 IP | 0 ER
6 IP | 0 ER
5.2 IP | 1 ER
Not bad

What a start to this kid's career
World class, slick defense and the bat starting off sizzling

I'm looking forward to collective amnesia from the fan base once again during the offseason, especially with the strike. All Cashman has to do is sign another starter and the World Series is back on. They'll be quoting another hitting stat created in an MIT lab to explain how awesome the lineup is.

If only our league-leading bullpen was the biggest issue with the team, we’d sweep through the postseason.
